Tinted moisturizer for combo + acne prone skin

Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to find a good tinted moisturizer in replacement of foundation, because I want something light and natural and nothing heavy, for I dislike how cakey my skin looks and how heavy it feels. I’ve recently bought Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer and I love it, other than the fact that even the porcelain shade makes my face looks a bit orangey (I have very fair skin with pink undertones) and I have many blemishes and acne scars on my chin, which weren’t concealed very well and the skin would crack on some spots. I was hoping to get some recommendations for I've been struggling for a very long time to find something suited for my skin without looking like I packed too much product onto my face, and hopefully some of you may help!

I agree with @PinkEvergreen and @Anonymous, Dr. Jart+ is great. The black label detox works best for me.  If you're able to, go to a store and test a couple on the back of your hand to see which version blends into your skin best.

They're good products and affordable!

Re: Tinted moisturizer for combo + acne prone skin

@KamaW My absolute favourite is Dr Jart’s Premium Beauty Balm. I have a fair complexion, with combination, very sensitive skin that is both acne and rosacea prone. The first time I pumped the light to medium shade, I thought, ”ugh, total miss!” It looked way too dark and had an odd greenish tinge when I looked closely. But once I applied it, my skin looked amazing! Smooth, a bit dewy, and it cancelled out some redness I had from healing pimples. (I hadn’t perfected my skin care yet.)

Best of all, it doesn’t cling to or highlight dry skin or areas that are healing. Instead, it hydrates and nourishes, and helps balance out combination skin. It also helps keep my rosacea in remission, which regular foundation never did.

Recently, I’ve also started wearing two products underneath, which add to the smoothing effects but never give a cakey look. I alternate between Guerlain L’Or and First Aid Beauty Coconut Smoothie Priming Moisturizer. (Meaning, I choose one each day to wear under my Dr Jart’s Premium Beauty Balm.) They both give extra hydration and glow, without a greasy or pore-clogging effect.

Good luck finding your own perfect match! 🙂

The Dr. Jart tinted creams saved my skin! So fantastic and healing WITH SPF! I would highly recommend for anyone with sensitive/ acne prone skin (that’s what I have too). Hope this helps 🙂

@KamaW I like BareMinerals Complexion Rescue. There is a wide shade range so you should be able to find something light enough for your fair skin.

Re: Tinted moisturizer for combo + acne prone skin

@KamaW I would recommend Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. I think its light enough to not feel like a foundation but has enough tint to give real coverage. That's my weekend go to. I only use LM when my skin is good because I just don't think there is any coverage. But honestly, to cover acne/scars, you need a concealer on top of the tinted moisturizer. I use the Nars Radiant Cream Concealer on the bits that need it. Only trouble is if there is a shade light enough for you...

Conversely, I'm currently spot placing full coverage foundation in active areas and using a beauty blender to blend it seamlessly with areas that have no foundation. But this means you need a perfect shade match.

I actually am having the same problem - but I just recenlty remembered that I used to use the maybelline bb cream before I started using heavier foundations. They have a light shade, and it doens't feel heavy on your skin or anything.
