Sephora Foundation Class

Hi All!  I'm a newbie to the forums.  I live for lipstick but I'm trying to find a foundation that could be right for me.  I feel like I don't know enough yet, whether liquid, cream, powder, medium or full coverage, etc.  Have any of you taken the foundation class and liked it?  I'm not sure if I'm better off going in the store to get color matched and talking to a sales associate or heading to the class.  Maybe both.  Just looking for people's thoughts on the class.  Thanks in advance!

As a side note, I'm acne-prone and super oily.  I've only worn liquid in the past but I'm open to other things.  This is not me asking for recommendations as I'm not going to put all the work on your shoulders.  Trust me, I'll research this compulsively once I have an idea of what I want.

Cheers!

Re: Sephora Foundation Class

@sprocketta, I recommend taking the class, too.  They will color match you while you're there.  I've taken the smoky eye class and the contour class, and although the classes weren't about foundations they color matched me at each class (it came out the same both times.)  It turns out I have a warmer skin tone than I realized.  I'd been buying foundation with a neutral undertone, but the new one I purchased with a yellow undertone after that matches me better.

Re: Sephora Foundation Class

@sprocketta I would take the class. They’ll cover the various types and usually give you some personal attention and recommendations. And you get to try a few different types and talk to other people who are also interested in finding the right product. It’s a fun way to spend a couple hours. My recommendation is if you already have your own brushes is to bring them to the class with you. It’s not mandatory but after going to a couple Sephora classes I found that I much preferred to bring as many of my own products as possible.

Thanks! @starsandbucks

I think I will.

RE: Sephora Foundation Class

@sprocketta if you’re able to take a class, I’d say go for it..BUT...don’t feel pressured to have to buy something. I’ve never taken a class but have read and heard that some Cast Members can get pretty pushy when it comes to selling you things. One thing you can do is watch YouTube. I had oily skin foreverrrrrrr until Ingot it under complete control with skincare. I watched NikkiaJoy on YouTube religiously because she did foundation wear tests on every single foundation targeted toward oily skin. You can definitely learn a lot from her. She gives detailed reviews as well as tips and tricks to staying matte throughout the day. She’s a working MUA which is also a plus!

Curious to know which skincare products helped you out.

@theblancnieve I use the Clinique acne solutions 3 step and the same brand's  clinical clearing gel for spot treatments. I'm wondering if i should try something new as I always seem to have a few pimples anyway.

Thanks @darlyndar.  I've been thinking I need to follow some bloggers but didn't know where to start.  This sounds great.

Re: Sephora Foundation Class

Hi!

If you have oily skin, I really recommend the Anastasia BH foundation sticks....ooooohhhh my god I love them. Especially for oily skin you will get great coverage and a very natural look. They are very affordable but really great quality, and you can get two shades for the price of one other foundation typically.

There are a few ways to apply these foundations, ask an associate to show you, or wait for an event when ABH people are there, thats how I learned to use mine.

The way I apply now is I saturate my concealer and foundation bushes, and brush in.

But with your skin type, I think you could do that or also get a great effect from applying directly onto your skin then brushing it out.

I use a regular matched shade for concealing and all over face, and a slightly darker shade for a natural contouring effect.

If you want a liquid- I highly recommend the Laura Mercier Candleglow Foundation.

For concealers, Anastasia BH in a ligher shade will work, or try the color correct, or concealer palettes from Make Up Forever. You can play with the colors to correct, but also with a few shades, you can contour (or also use as a light eye shadow for days you want to look natural).

If you are acne prone (I have the same problem) try to stay away from anything with silicones.

If you really have to have a primer, I suggest the Burberry Fresh Glow.

Re: Sephora Foundation Class

Thanks @katsanova.  I definitely was not looking at the ABH so I will look into it.
