Need help

Hi all! This is a long one

I need the communities help. I’m struggling with doing my makeup and no having it look terrible. No matter what i’ve tried or what i do it looks cakey it separates it flakes off. I’ve tried countless products and techniques and i’m really sad tbh. i’m looking for tips, tricks, and recommendations. I’ll put down the products i use on a daily basis and others i’ve tried. my skin type is combo oily and dry but mainly on the dry side, acne prone in the chin area and i’m 22.

Skin prep

Byoma milky toner

Three Ships Dew Drops

Vanicream moisturizer

makeup

nars creamy radiant concealer or tower 28 serum concealer, spot conceal with nars soft matte blend with brush and sponge

foundation (if using) dior backstage fluid foundation

i use blush and bronzer and such but don’t have an issue

makeup by mario setting powder

i’ve tried the Danessa Myricks blurring balm powder and really wanted to like it but i can’t get it to work. i’ve tried the Huda beauty easy blur primer and the easy bake. i liked the primer but i thought it what was making my makeup slide off and the powder is too scented

I think that’s it. I’m looking for help Thank you!

Skin Prep: Laniege Toner, Beauty of Joseon Gingseng Essence and Farmacy Honey Halo moisturizer

Regular makeup: Urban Decay Face Bond or Pat McGrath foundation, Pat McGrath or NARS bronzer, Rare Beauty/Haus Labs blush, Charlotte Tilbury finish powder and setting spray (or One Size spray)— I use all brushes.

For the past two weeks, I have been using Danessa Myricks Blurring balm powder. I use her moisturizer balm with it and I absolutely love it. For the first week, I could not get it together with that balm powder. The 1st shade I got was off and it looked cakey because I was putting on too much. I figured this all out about 3 days in. 3rd day I switched shades and bought the moisturizer balm. The balm made such a difference to my dry skin and application. When wearing the moisturizer balm I do not use my regular moisturizer. Only use a little bit of balm. For the balm powder, I use a flat foundation brush and apply 2-3 swipes on each cheek— no more (I don’t use the scooper because although helpful you still can dig out too much if aggressive). I blend it out and it looks natural and not cakey. I only use a very light dusting of finishing/setting powder if I use a cream blush/bronzer. Without fail, I still use setting spray. I love it.

Make sure you do a light exfoliation once a week. Another tip: if using liquid foundation pour a little on the back of hand and dot it on face (do not pour directly on face). When dotting it (for me about 4 dots per cheek— I have chipmunk cheeks), you can control how much you truly need. Also think about the coverage, do you really need a light or full coverage? Either way, you probably do not need a lot of it especially full coverage ones.

You probably know most of the stuff I wrote. It is probably more about technique than products. Don’t be discouraged. It took me  almost two years to find a brand that had my perfect shade. Good luck  ☺️

Re: Need help

@alexmaiurro what are you using to apply your foundation? do you notice issues on specific parts of your face? Have you tried skipping the dew drops and using less moisturizer? I remember liking the Dior backstage but it's not the most long wearing from what I recall.
