Melasma...

Hello all! I gave melasma dark spots on my upper lip... makes it look like I have a permanent mustache :(... I use Cliniqueโ€™s dark spot serum and also ole henriksenโ€™s dark spot toner.. Iโ€™m general the rest of my skin care routine consists of origins plantscription line. I gave noticed a very small improvement but lately itโ€™s just stayed the same. Does anyone have any recommendations that have worked for them for melasma lightening specifically? Also any recommendations for covering it with make up? I use foundation and concealer but since itโ€™s on my lip it looks awfully caked sometimes or it seems to emphasize the dark spots more... any info would be helpful!! Thank you!!!

Re: Melasma...

Melasma is really tough to lighten since it can be caused by hormones and the sun and genetics -- so addressing the cause and preventing is the best way to reduce it.

I had the best luck with: changing to non-estrogen birth control, using MINERAL spf 50 every day, no exceptions, vitamin C serum and tretinoin cream daily, and Lytera 2.0 in evenings (from Dermstore). This was after going to a dermatologist and is what worked best for me. Prevention is the best method. Hope that helps!
