Is foundation necessary?

I’ve been wearing foundation everyday for the past few years and recently I’ve been realizing how much I hate it. It honestly feels disgusting. My skin isn’t that bad there’s only a few spots. I was thinking I could just spot conceal and than do the rest of my routine. But I don’t know if skipping it would make me look bad. Like what’s the point of foundation and would you say it’s a necessary step?

RE: Is foundation necessary?

I think that if you have a clear and even complexion you don’t need to wear foundation. I feel more confident with wearing it myself, I don’t have great skin, but that’s a personal preference.

Re: Is foundation necessary?

@Emma2002xox I think it is definitely not necessary. If you do need a little coverage maybe use a tinted moisturizer or if not definitely just spot conceal. Whatever feels best for you😊

Re: Is foundation necessary?

@Emma2002xox it's really just a personal preference on what you like and how much coverage you enjoy. I rarely wear a full face of foundation during the work week. I usually like to conceal and then use a powder (like my HG CT airbrush finish powder) with a bit of a tint to set and even out skin tone. Sometimes I'll use a bb cream (like the bare minerals complexion rescue) but generally I just prefer a pretty light base during the week.

You can still look totally great and put together without a full face of foundation!

Re: Is foundation necessary?

Totally not necessary 🙂

After going foundation free for the entire month of March for my vacation (somewhere hot & humid!), I feel like a new makeup person. I used to use medium to full coverage  everyday and always tried to get that flawless look, but I know that's not realistic for me (for one, I have freckles so it's harder to cover) and I find it just looks like makeup at the end of the day, even though I work a 9-5 office job.

I started using sheer foundation (Kosas Tinted Face Oil) and it's enough to just even out any redness but still look like my skin and a touch of Nars complete matte concealer for my undereyes.

I don't think you, or anyone for that matter, looks bad without foundation, you should feel confident in your own skin and embrace what you have 🙂

Re: Is foundation necessary?

@Emma2002xox  Definitely not necessary! I feel mostly the same way, it never wears how I want it to and all the tips/tricks to get it to work (primers, setting powders, setting sprays, blending moisturizers in, etc) sound exhausting. I use a sheer tinted moisturizer or BB/CC Cream to even out my skintone/ hide redness around my nose but that's about it foundation wise

Re: Is foundation necessary?

I wore it when I was younger, but hated it also and kinda thought it made me look worse, plus it would get cakey so thats nice.  now I don't wear anything, and I think that's the best thing for your skin.  if I do, I prefer just concealer around nose area to cover up redness and such, and maybe some powder on top (bare minerals).  I also got a cc cream from physicians formula that looks really nice if I bother to put it on.

Re: Is foundation necessary?

@Emma2002xox Foundation isn’t necessary unless you are trying to cover up something. You can always just use concealer in places you need it or a tinted moisturizer for sheer coverage.

Re: Is foundation necessary?

@Emma2002xox Nothing cosmetics is necessary. If you don't feel like wearing foundation don't, or try something lighter weight than what you've been wearing. Lately I'll just wear tinted spf. Or when needing more coverage, I'll apply a lightweight base where needed. You could also wear a primer alone, if you need/want evening out.
