Foundation Matching Fail

What’s the best way to matching your foundation to your complexion? I’m having the hardest time matching the right color foundation for my skin complexion. I have like a yellow undertone. When I go to Sephora to get match it seems like the colors they find are too light for me. It seems fine in the store but when I go out in public it looks horrible especially when I take a picture with the flash on. I was told at one store through my color IQ for Fenty Beauty I was a 330 then I went to another store an associate said I was a 360. They were both around the same season.

Foundation Matching Fail

Same problem here was matched with 360. It's too light really need to return for a shade that fits my complexion Asap!!

Re: Foundation Matching Fail

Hi gorgeous!

Happy to help. For foundation, lighting is everything. We recommend swatching 3 shades on your jawline (makeup free!) and taking a quick look at them outside. Whichever color disappears is the winner.

Be sure to test shades on your jawline to get the best match. Also, if the store has an outdoor entrance go with the SA to a corner by the front windows to check it in natural light.

I like Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 or Cover FX Mattifying setting sprays... for powder without flashback, right now I only trust Laura Mercier Translucent Powder (some of her others do flash, but that one doesn't).

Flashback (on camera) is a separate issue from foundation shade, too. Match foundation in natural light, then make sure you're setting it with a powder or spray that doesn't generate flashback.

RE: Foundation Matching Fail

I would suggest having them match you and getting samples of a few shades

Yes exactly, they should be willing to give you a couple little sample pots so you can compare two different shades or formulas at home.
