I get asked from time to time what foundation shade I am wearing. Honestly, I have been custom mixing my own shade for almost 15 years now. Ever since I went to makeup school we learned how to lighten and darker shades by mixing. I took what I learned and started experimenting on foundations I would get as samples and mix them into the ones I already loved. It really depends on the day and what look I am going for. Sometimes I will mix 2 shades and other days it could be 3-4.
I was finding it hard to get the right shade for my skin tone and this process has helped make it easier for me. The bonus is you won’t have to go through your foundation as fast.
