BB, CC, Foundation?! Application?

I used to only ever use foundation/full coverage makeup when I was performing but now, on Zoom calls and to even out my skin tone, I've been exploring it more. I've also been breaking out a lot in the last month (thanks a lot adult acne...) and trying to cover it up. I've been using Clinique's Acne Solutions BB Cream SPF40. Its fine but sometimes it feels like a lot on my face and looks cake-y and shiny to me. I've heard good things about the "it" brand. Should I try it? If so should I go with the CC cream or the Foundation? And how should I be applying it? I've been using my fingers and a sponge but I am starting to think a brush may be the better way to go. I'm also curious about Supergoop's CC cream... any advice is welcome!
