Re: best clean deodorant

I have major issues with deodorant. I get red, itchy, painful, burning rash under my arms. Switching to a clean deo is what got me started on my clean beauty journey. I have tried just about every clean deo under the sun. I even did a post on my blog and a youtube video comparing six different popular clean deos

Hands down my favorite is still the sprays from Weleda. The sage is my absolute favorite. No irritation, no burning, no itching, and keeps me fresh all day. I also love that it is not a typical white past type of deo so I don’t have to worry about getting clothes messed up.

Re: best clean deodorant

@meg183  I haven't had much luck personally with the clean deodorants that Sephora caries. However I'll list my three favourites below!

1) LOVEFRESH Deodorant: Canada based. Comes in a stick. My daily deodorant

2) Black Chicken Remedies Axilla Paste: Australia based but can be found at North American retailers. Comes in a jar.

3) Routine Deodorant: Tons of "varieties" (varied ingredients) and scents to choose from, as well as smaller sample jars (pastes) that make it awesome for trying out. Canada based but they ship North America wide on their website, and have a list of local stockists. If you'd go this route I recommend ordering direct and getting the little sample jars, and selecting different "types" as you may find one works better than another for you. They have sticks now (used to only be paste in jars) but I haven't tried them out yet so can't comment on them.

Re: best clean deodorant

I've been using "clean" deodorants for about 20 years now & I personally find the best one that helps with odor is the OG "Crystal".
It's basically a salt rock. Easy to use & it kills off bacteria without leaving any residue or stickiness. It also won't dry your skin out, I have very dry skin & have never had an issue. There's a couple by "Jason" I also really like. They have light scents, glycerin based & are very effective.
personally, I'm not super impressed with most of the newer ones that have been hitting the market. They're mostly scented baking soda with glycerin-cost 2-4 times what the long timers cost & leave residue & are too heavily scented for my liking. It's a bit time consuming to check ingredients, but there's a few anti-perspirants that have been around for years. If it's mainly the aluminum & heavy fragrance chemicals you're trying to avoid, just look for "antiperspirant" on the label. Arm & hammer & Toms have some that work pretty well too.
Your friend is some type of salt, that's what keeps the bacteria causing the odor down. Which is why I mainly stick to the "Crystal". It works great & it's got not scent that irritates my skin or competes with perfumes.

Re: best clean deodorant

I forgot to add, I'm not even sure how much it costs, but the "Crystal" deodorant lasts at least a year & I think is 10-15$. Mine typically last me almost 2 years. It's dry & you wet it to apply, no bacteria is going to grow so perfectly safe to have around so long. My brothers just use theirs right out of the shower before their skin dries. They do make a travel size as well now if you're still shopping around for one that suits you well.

the "Jason" brand, very reasonable, 7-8$. They make really great, basic organic products all around too. They've been around since 20 years ago when everyone thought I was absolutely crazy. Yes, you used to be considered "crazy" if you avoided aluminum, parabens, sulfates etc. & yes, studies proving how bad they can be have been around that long.

@meg183

Corpus and No Pong  are the best ones I’ve ever tried. Corpus is quite pricy but it’s in a stick and every scent I’ve got (California and Neroli) smell divine. No Pong is more reasonably priced but in a tin and you apply with your fingers, there are 3 scents available and both brands are baking Soda free.

Re: best clean deodorant

I actually bought  a bunch of natural deodorants and tried them out during COVID for something to do.

The winner.....

Kopari deodorant!

A tip is to use an oil face cleanser before the shower on your underarms while you are transitioning.

Other ones I tried either didn't work, irritated me or were so strong they were basically normal deodorant (i.e. if I didn't wear for a day I got smelly).

Re: best clean deodorant

Have you tried Lume? It's worked wonders for me.

Re: best clean deodorant

I’m in love with Ursa Major’s Forest Fix deodorant. It’s all clean and free of metals and there are a few different scents and versions to check out. They’re a small B Corp based in Vermont with super awesome everything. It took a few days for my body to adjust to it, but I love the way Forest Fix smells now. Even if I skip wearing deodorant for a day (because really, the pandemic) my body odor isn’t half as bad as it used to be when I was wearing Dove.

Re: best clean deodorant

Hi @meg183 ! I use Routine deodorants. These are cream deodorants that come in glass jars and mini/sample jars. Last year, Routine launched a few scents in stick format for folks who hate applying with their fingers. I’ve tried the stick version of 2 of my favorite scents (Superstar and Cat Lady) and I dunno, something about them isn’t as good as the original jarred version. So I recommend the jars over the sticks. You can order some of the mini jars to try different scents. The minis are sold separately and in sets.

I usually order direct from Routine unless I don’t want to pay Canada-to-US shipping. In that case, I order from Routine’s Amazon store or US retailers who carry the brand (Credo and Lily’s Bathcarry are the 2 I’ve ordered from).

Re: best clean deodorant

@WinglessOne Thank you for the comment about the Routine sticks! I used to use the pastes a lot but haven't given the sticks a try yet; sounds like they aren't competing with the pastes 😉

Re: best clean deodorant

The best one I have tried is NUUD. It’s a deodorant and not an antiperspirant.

Re: best clean deodorant

Avoid the Blume Hug Me, @meg183. Its made quite a few people (myself included) have irritation and the transition period with scent changes never went away. I've heard mixed reviews about the Kopari Coconut Deodorant Charcoal, I've been using and liking and the "scent transition" time point was only about a week. I've only heard great things about Native and Routine brands as well.

Re: best clean deodorant

@haleyvvvv  oh no that's horrible people were having irritation.  I actually love Blume!  I have been using it for over a year now, I feel it controls perspiration and does not leave me smelling bad at all.

Re: best clean deodorant

I'm glad its working well for you, @VeniVidiVisa!!

Re: best clean deodorant

Totally agree. I never react to products and I got a wicked rash from Blume Hug me.

Re: best clean deodorant

@meg183 I enjoyed the Briogio deodorant after having it sent to me in gratis, however found that it was a bit pricey to keep repurchasing.  I've tried the LaVanille (tossed it it smelled okay in the tube but awful on), Schmidt's (was okay, but the scents weren't great and it didn't last all day all the time), and Native.  The Native is my favourite, it's got a wide variety of scents and lasts quite nicely on me (in all fairness I'm not doing any crazy workouts here) and it's not anymore expensive than the other deodorants I used to buy.  I'm actually going to try out some of their other products next time I order from them.  Oh and free shipping to Canada/US and you can find it at Target's.

Re: best clean deodorant

I've tried Tom's and Schmidt's with little success; my current favorite is Native. There was definitely a smelly transition period, but now it's smooth sailing! I will say that I sweat a lot in the night, so I apply it after my post-work shower in order to not wake up stinky.
