Thumbs down to Vitamin C

Wow! So I've just experience my first Vitamin C purge AND burn. I used a high end eye cream and serum (not available on Sephora) that has left me with wicked breakouts and red sore patches of dry skin under my eyes. Womp, womp. So now I am just wondering how many other ladies have found they have an extreme sensitivity to Vit C?! And how many of you are realizing the stuff is in so many other things. UGH.

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

You should definitely give Drunk Elephant C- Firma Day Serum.  Your skin should be able to tolerate this gentle  vitamin c

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

I disagree, a lot of people, including myself do not do well with the drunk elephant vitamin c. It made me break out a lot. If you decide to go with that one I would buy the smaller set so you can try it before spending a ton of money

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

I had the worst reaction to DE as well. I was all scratchy and broke out so badly. It also smells like salami and is so sticky. Really hate that one.

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

Don't give up so easily! Vitamin C is really great ingredient for your skin! You can't be sure what was the problem after just one product. Best way is to go to the store and have a little chat with skincare expert, you can also take a few samples of different product and maybe you will find one that will work for you!

I have super sensitive skin, so I eased into vitamin c serum because I'd heard horror stories. I'm using derma e vitamin c serum and it is gentle, makes my skin glow and also makes my face smell kind of like fruit loops. My skin is so much more even now.

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

@Anonymous I'm pretty sensitive to pretty much all vitamin c serums, but Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% from the ordinary doesn't seem to burn or cause any irritation at all.

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

@Anonymous Sadly I'm quite  sensitive to Vitamin C as well, especially in stand alone serums. It's such a bummer since it's so good for your skin. I haven't had as strong a reaction when the vitamin C is in a moisturizer, and there are some serums that have vitamin C in it, but it's not the feature active, that do great on my skin. I suspect you just need to experiment with the strength of vitamin C your skin can handle. The OH truth serum and the DE vit C cause texture and baby breakouts on my skin, but the Caudalie VineActiv is like a godsend. Test and sample!

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

vitamin c is strong, and its common for people to have reactions to it. usually its less harsh to get vitamin c in the form of a moisturizer. the sunday riley CEO moisturizer works well for people who are sensitive to vitamin c. and right now you can get a sample with a $25 purchase with the code vitalskin on your sephora online checkout 🙂

or you can skip vitamin c altogether and try caudalie vinoperfect radiance serum. it uses grape instead of vitamin c to produce similar results! much less harsh on the skin.

but maybe wait until your skin is no longer irritated before trying a new brightening product. when my skin gets irritated i spray caudalie grape water, or use peter thomas roth cucumber mask (I leave that on overnight if my skin is really bad)

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

Yes!  I love Caudalie's Radiance Serum. I currently use that at night along with Algenist's Genius Liquid Collagen.  They work well together.  I also use Caudalie's Brightening Serum.. Love Caudalie!

Re: Thumbs down to Vitamin C

Hi okayelove,

I had a similar reaction to Ole's Truth Serum.  I only used it once and experienced minor breakouts so I immediately stopped using it.  I had used other vitaminc c products like Caudalie's VineActiv Glow Activating Serum with no issues so I was a little surprised when I started breaking out using Truth Serum.  Since then, I just used Truth Serum again but I used a tiny amount and have to say that I didn't have a reaction at all, which I'm really happy about.  Maybe the products you were using were too high in concentration of vitamin C??  Just a thought.

I'll raise my hand to this. As a true lover of Sunday Riley I had to try the CEO line and boy was it bad when I did. My face had never looked so red and sort of swollen and going outside made it even worse. I would be careful for sure and use a nice soothing gel moisturizer.
