Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

Hello!

I stated eating a vegan diet this past November and I would really like to transition over my skincare and beauty routine as well! I have been using Clinique's 3-step system and that worked for a while but they are not cruelty-free and I feel like it is becoming too harsh on my skin.

I am looking for recommendations on a whole new routine. Cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and treatments. I have normal skin that is pretty sensitive/acne prone. What are some of your favorite cruelty free products?

Re: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

I saw some people say it above, but I must echo: check out Paula's Choice Beautypedia. It's soooo helpful! I literally go into the filters, select the product type I'm looking for (i.e. Serums), the 5 star rating & then cruelty free & I make all of

my choices from there. I highly recommend Drunk Elephant C Firma (they also have good tester size kits!), Drunk Elephant Lola Whipped moisturizer and Myra's City's defense spf 50 lotion. Stay away from Juice Beauty as well.

RE: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

I am currently obsessed with Herbivore (vegan) and Drunk Elephant (most items are vegan). Both lines are cruelty free. Check out the blog logical harmony for more brands, and as someone mentioned, cruelty free kitty is also great. You can search PETA's website too but some cruelty free brands aren't certified through PETA.

Re: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

I agree that Tatcha is simply the best! I was using Paula's Choice before that but I wasn't fond of how some of the natural products smelled, and Sephora doesn't carry them anyway. Just look out for silk or pearl protein in a couple of Tatcha products, but otherwise they are fantastic and luxurious.

For skincare, I would definitely recommend you check out Paula's Choice. She has different collections for different skin needs. My skin is also very sensitive and I love her products. Paula's Choice is entirely cruelty-free and most of her products are vegan. (The products thataren't vegan are listed on her website) You can also buy samples instead of buying full size if you're not sure how well your skin will react. All around a great brand that I definitely recommend looking into๐Ÿ˜Š

RE: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

I just started this journey as well. I've decided to also not buy products from companies that have a market in China (required by law to test) and companies that are owned by companies that test on animals (like urban decay ๐Ÿ˜ญ). So far for skincare I like youth to the people and farmacy. Makeup wise Anastasia and kat von d are both completely cruelty free. Still searching for more! ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

Hi Niko,

Depends on whether you are supporting vegan/cruelty brands without parent companies that test. If you don't care about their parent companies, tarte and too faced are good (they were recently bought by larger companies). If you want ones that 100% are cruelty free, most good makeup at Sephora do not fit the definition of vegan.

For skincare, a commentator previous said first aid beauty is good. On their website, they say they do not test on animals yet sell in Mainland China which requires all products tested on animals to be sold in their country. Therefore, this is not considered vegan.

~These are the products I use and love~

Tatcha is amazing:

  • The Deep Polish (exfoliator)
  • Gold Camellia Beauty Oil (facial oil)
  • Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm (lip cream)
  • Red Camellia Lip Balm (lip cream)
  • Original Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers (blotting papers)

Lush carries:

  • Coal Face (cleanser)
  • Grease Lighting (blemish cream)

RE: Re: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

When it comes to products sold in China there are many things that can effect if the product gets tested on animals or not. I found this chart to make it easier to understand. The rules around their testing can be confusing.

RE: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

I have sensitive and acne prone skin that goes between oily and combo. I too am also vegan and two brands I love at Herbivore Botanicals and Youth to the People. Both are 100% vegan/CF and have your skincare basics covered!

Re: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

You should google Cruelty Free Kitty.com Its a website and they have shopping guides for vegans for Ulta, Sephora, and the drugstore. For my skin regime I use First Aid Beauty they cant be confirmed to be cruelty free according to Cruelty Free Kitty, but they say they are on there website and I chose to believe them. I use the First Aid Beauty face cleanser and Im still shopping around for moisturizers Ive always had a problem finding a good one. As a toner I just use witch hazel it works great. For makeup I use mostly Tarte, Stila, Anastisia, Smashbox, Colourpop, and physicans formula. But i think Cruelty Free Kitty has helped me alot to filter products and also if you just go to sephora and say that youre vegan they dont judge you or anything theyve always been pretty helpful to me.

Re: Going Cruelty Free/Vegan!

have you tried fab's daily face cream? i literally could not use moisturizer for years bc i'm super sensitive to fragrances and can't stand the smell of chemicals in the "unscented" ones. and i'm really sensitive to how moisturizers feel. the daily face cream changed my life though!
