Highlighting: possible without foundation?

Hello. I have been eyeing a few highlighters for awhile now and am getting to the point of really wanting to try them. However, I am not at all into wearing foundations which is what has me hesitating purchasing one, my concern being; if highlighters can be worn without foundation?

You can definitely wear highlight without foundation. Whenever I don't feel like putting on a full face, I like to use light highlighters just so my skin looks a little dewy. But powder highlighters are just as great, especially if you want to look super glowy.

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

If "super-glowy" equates to "born-with-metal-in-my-skin", I am SOOOO there! Definitely looking into powder highlighters. Thank you very much!

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

I wear a highlighter without foundation sometimes. I first put on the Tarte clean slate primer, use the Lorac Pro Conceal/Contour palette for any spots that need concealing and then add a highlighter on top. The result is a very natural fresh look!

I will look into that, thank you!

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

Any illuminating cream/liquid will do. Just make sure to moisturize your face first!

Moisturize! Thank you for the tip!

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

I highly recommend the Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Base for a beautiful subtle (natural?)highlight. It is pricey, but a little goes a long way and I think it would be fine without foundation. It's a liquid and truly beautiful. Lower priced alternative, also great, is Becca liquid skin perfector. I have the travel size and there's lots of product. Happy highlighting!

I will give this product a look-see. Thank you for the recommendation ^__^

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

Of course you can! With the caveat that if you are someone who has larger pores or texture (e.g. acne scarring) on your cheek area, powder highlighters in particular may emphasize that texture. Super blinding highlighters also draw attention to that area and may lead to an unwanted effect. To minimize this, I usually prefer to use cream/liquid foundations when not wearing foundation, or a very subtle touch of a fine powder highlight.

Thank you for your experience! I will definitely keep this in mind!

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

I'm sure there are some products that are more pigmented with a foundation but you do you! If you're happy that's all that matters! 😁 I think you've inspired me to give my foundation a rest but still be blinding AF

Thank you for the encouragement ^___^

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

I wear highlighter everyday without foundation. It's definitely not necessary to wear one with the other.

RE: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

You definitely do not need to wear foundation. Like you, I was hesitant to purchase a highlighter because I don't wear foundation but you don't need it. I would suggest the Becca highlighter or Laura Mercier. I wear this instead of blush and it gives my skin a nice healthy glow.

RE: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

Yes you can and you can also pair it with a liquid highlighter as a base for it, if you want it to be blinding af

Re: Highlighting: possible without foundation?

Yes, 100%. I do it all the time, so do other BICers, and there are tons of no foundation makeup tutorials on Youtube right now if you want tips. @Anonymous
