Highlighters and skin texture trouble

Hi guys, I find that whenever I apply Highlighter to my upper cheekbone area it really excentuates on the texture of my skin in that area if you know what I mean? without it it doesn't... but whenever I apply it I find that I can't stand the way it looks with the texture being brought out. I've used everything from Becca to Urban decay, Nyx etc.. any suggestions or thoughts? does anyone else have this issue?

Re: Highlighters and skin texture trouble

In addition to the other suggestions below, you might want to try different brushes for powder application. Some brushes might be picking up too much product and emphasizing your pores with a thick layer rather than a sheer layer of glow. Using one edge of a fan brush then buffing out with the whole edge works wonders for me, even with highlighters that might otherwise look too chunky/glittery. A smaller, fluffy and less dense elongated brush works well too, the airy the brush, the smoother the application.

RE: Highlighters and skin texture trouble

I think a liquid highlighter would work best on textured skin versus a powder or cream that would cling onto the textured areas.

Re: Highlighters and skin texture trouble

definitely switch primers/foundation! You need a flawless start for a flawless finish. Also be careful with powder highlighters. I dont have much texture to my skin yet powder highlighters tend to make it look really textured if I'm not careful!

Try benefits liquid highlighters- theyre my staple. 🙂

Re: Highlighters and skin texture trouble

I would change your primer. I would use a blurring primer or a poreless primer. I like Becca's evermatte poreless primer. Also maybe you should play around and try different highlighters. My skin changes texture with the seasons, so I have a liquid highlighter, a cream highlighter, and a powder highlighter. If you have the availability I would go into one of the Sephora stores and try a few different ones and see which one your skin does better with.

RE: Highlighters and skin texture trouble

It's not so much the highlighter but the primer you use under your foundation. I would try Tarte's Poreless Primer. It works wonders. And for skin care in general Sunday Reily -Good genes is a great way to minimize the appearance of pores. Great makeup starts with good skin.
