animal cruelty free

Best animal cruelty free makeup brand?

RE: animal cruelty free

I love Too Faced, Kat Von D, Urban Decay, Drunk Elephant, Besame Cosmetics, Colourpop, Murad, Dirty Works (skincare line) just to name a few! They're all cruelty free certified either by PETA, Cruelty Free Kitty, and/or Leaping Bunny.

Re: animal cruelty free

Building on what @Tati631 said, some brands say "cruelty free" but that may mean they just don't test on animals when they have the choice, however they will still do so in certain states or countries where it is required. To get true "cruelty free" certification a company needs to not sell in any market where testing is required. For example, any company that sells in China engages in at least some form of animal testing because it is required there. Then that company might market themselves as "cruelty free" in the United States because technically they don't test when they sell there, even though they do test elsewhere.

The two organizations that give cruelty-free certification are PETA and Leaping Bunny. You can look on either of their sites to find more information on their requirements and the brands they certify. Each has a nice list and search feature. Tldr: by most standards any company endorsed by either of these sites can be considered cruelty free.

For a decently comprehensive, frequently updated list of companies certified by both LB and PETA, either one, or by presenting the necessary documentation, these are two trusted sites:

These sites also let you know if the company is 100% vegan, if that is something else important to you in your products. Additionally, some companies may be cruelty-free with their own products, but be owned by a parent company that is not. Those are also noted on the list if that is something that is important to you. Logical Harmony has a nice feature where you can search a company and immediately find out if it is cruelty-free, pending investigation, or if it is known to test on animals.

I don't recommend trusting what the brand by itself says, as companies will blatantly lie or use misleading information when left to their own devices. I have seen with my own eyeballs (Laniege, I'm looking at you) brands tout cruelty-free campaigns in some countries and then not in others where testing is required. But any company ceritied by one of the aforementioned sites is a pretty safe bet.

Okay tldr to answer your original question my favorite of the cruelty-free brands that are sold at Sephora are: Hourglass, Hum, Too Faced, Tarte, Bite, Buxom, Antonym, Axiology, Ciate London, Jack Black, Urban Decay, and Stilla.

I also adore the company Julep but they are rarely sold at Sephora.

Other brands sold at Sephora include: Kat Von D, Olehenriksen, Ilia, Anastasia Beverly Hills, RMS, Natasha Denona, Cover FX, Smashbox, Tata Harpher, Drunk Elephant (also supports elephant charities), Drybar, IT Cosmetics, Marc Jacobs (makeup, not fragrances), Deborah Lippmann, Becca, Kate Somerville, Sunday Riley, Korres, Wander, Murad, Milk, and I believe also the new brands Pretty Vulgar and Fenty. I can't remember which are 100% vegan, but if I recall correctly Kat Von D is in the process of trying to switch over.

just to get clarification by adding to what @FalsiesFan said, are you interested in cruelty free, vegan/vegetarian or any of those in particular? remember that cruelty free ONLY means that they don't test on animals and has no connection to whether or not a product is made with animal byproducts. there are many brands that are vegan or vegetarian but not cruelty free and vice versa

RE: animal cruelty free

Tarte! Also, for lashes I recently found out that Huda says they are cruelty free but actually uses Mink in the lashes so go with Lily Lashes who use Faux Mink.

Personally prefer KvD overall, but there are so many out there. Are you looking for a list of cruelty free to try?
