Can't agree with you more with the misinformation V. I have to wonder if they looked at how Star Trek and other collections sold and decided to scale back production?? Then again they had to have saw all the excitement, especially from her fans. I kinda feel like they turned a blind eye to it,
@niki172 well I know they underestimated for Canada. We won't get the same roll out as the US because "she was more popular in the US". Maybe but she is still pretty popular I think. Some items are already sold out on the Canadian site. They haven't had sell outs in a very long time (except Taraji but was it sold out or stopped?) Plus this is very typical for Canada... the US being sold out and us having a few items still in stock. Every MAC online release I have seen sold out in the US first then Canada.
The collection did launch at 9am EST like all the other ones... just they had site issues. Not too pleased with that... but it happens. I am really mad at getting the run around of which retailer will get the collection... same goes for when the banging brilliant lipstick showed up... no announcement, no one had a clue... half the collection showed up one day and the rest weeks later... like wth? Usually the MAC staff is pretty informed but seems they've been in the dark this year... which is what is really bothering me.
Yeah the whole "who gets it we don't know" bit is what I'm most frustrated about. The site issue thing is annoying as well as they had to have know that people really wanted this collection. Oh well - I just hope this doesn't happen to the holiday collection - I have my eyes on a piece or two or three 😉
@niki172 yeah. Most collection roll out just fine but could potentially sell out. I thought Star Trek would sell out but it hasn't.... Sometimes the holiday stuff doesn't sell out but some pieces do. Counters in Canada are doing pre-orders on the set later this month. You can call a counter and see if they'll do it too? Ship for free as well?
After the disastrous launch today I went ahead and ordered the palette & insert to make my lip UD lip palette and since I needed $16 to make it to the next tier I pick up the Brooke Candy lipstick in 'Witching Hour'.
Does anyone have that lipstick? Thoughts? Swatches?
@StephaniLynn: I own Witching Hour from the Brooke Candy collection. While the formula is slightly better than that of the blue lipsticks from the Maybelline Loaded Bolds collection, I still found Witching Hour to be much too slippery for practical wear; the color would move around even if I press my lips together slightly -- forget about talking or eating. It take hours to "set" on my lips, and even then, the color would still move around a bit on my lips, causing it to look patchy / uneven.
I've tried applying Witching Hour over my MAC Nightmoth lipliner. While it cuts down on the slipperiness a bit, the resulting color looks vaguely dark and murky -- nothing the rich, deep blue/purple that it's supposed to be.
I'm looking to invest in a good lip primer to make this one work on my lips -- I need something that's tacky enough to grip onto slippery lipsticks like Witching Hour and make the color stay put.
@MlleCC Do you think setting it with translucent powder would help?
Ive got a few primers to help make it work just in case.
@StephaniLynn: My lazy self has never tried setting difficult lipsticks with setting / translucent powder! Applying lip balm as a substitute for proper primer is usually about as far as I go when it comes to putting in extra work.
If you do end up trying the setting powder method with Witching Hour, please do let me know how it turns out! And if it doesn't work, I would love to hear what are you favorite primers for gripping onto slippery lipsticks!
Is this typically what MAC releases are like? I just want one item from the upcoming Nutcracker collection but not willing to go through all this stress.
Yup. For items this popular, it is. They are purposefully vague about the release time, website is overwhelmed with traffic, things sell out in minutes, and everyone who didn't get what they wanted is all pissed off about it. The worst release I've ever seen was the Rihanna debacle. This collection wasn't really my jam, but I was very salty when those Rihanna lipsticks sold out in a flash.
The holiday the collection will be sold at all retailers, so I wouldn't worry too much about not getting what you want. Your store might even have a presale, or let you put things on hold the morning it releases. I usually just call the store and put items I want on hold. People might go a little nuts over the re-release of Whisper of Guilt (which probably won't look *exactly* the same as it was years ago) but there should be enough to go around.
I have to disagree. MAC release time is always 9am EST. Usually on Tuesday and Thursdays and it's been that way for a while now. I was able to place an order right around 9 after that too many site problems and it took all day to fix.
A lot of releases run smoothly but sell out very fast. Other run smoothly as well but they don't sell out.
They were not prepared but I am sure they underestimated this release. Canada isn't getting this at every location like the US because they think she wasn't as popular here... Sure not everything is sold out in Canada but some items are still sold out not like other collections. And well the US ALWAYS sells out before Canada does. Like I said previously they haven't been selling out like they used to.
No. MAC hasn't been doing well the last few years especially the last year... stuff never sells out and never this crazy... even when MAC was more popular it would get crazy like when Rocky Horror launched but not like this. Although I did hear some people say they had chat waiting rooms for some collections in the US... a few years ago though. Plus the Nutcracker collection will be available everywhere. Online/Stores/Counters. This launch was online and select (pro?) stores for Canada and online, stores and counter in the US. Unsure about all the locations in the US but that's what I have been seeing. If you are after a set there should be a pre sale for that. If you are after a single item some could sell out faster than others... something like the duo with WoG could sell faster.
@titi8750 I've never had such a disappointing launch as this one. They're normally much smoother but things would go out of stock very quickly.
@shimmerbait @darkiceis @NinaR78 @niki172 @StephaniLynn did I miss someone?
Around 1:30 I gave up after contacting Nordstrom. I *think* I'll have a better chance with them, but who knows? I did find an in store counter and they are not doing a pre sale, but at least with it going on line first and then in store it gives me 2 chances :). Now if I space again and forget LORAC 3 launches late tonight/early Sunday I'm in a sad state 😄
Woot woot!
Maybe I'll be able to snag a couple more UD samples along with my orders😂
This is good to know! I was wondering too if Saks would get it..they should right? If all the stores who carry MAC are getting it?
I couldn't deal with the website today so I will try Nordstrom or Macy's I guess...
@AnneMCC Saks botched it up and released the collex online earlier this week or late last week and sold out. I don't know if they will restock the website. I don't live near a b&m Saks so don't know if they have in-store counters?
@shimmerbait, bummer! I know my Saks doesn't have a MAC counter
you're welcome!
