Hello BIC beauties! ๐ I realized we don't have an active music thread here in BIC (there seem to be a few different short-lived threads from years past, but nothing recent as far as I could find), and I thought it would be fun to have a place to recommend our favorite artists and songs, chat about what we've been listening to lately, post our song of the day or anything else music related! Everyone is welcome to join in however you like, however often you like, and all types of music are welcome! ๐

@caitbird Canโt believe I havenโt posted in this thread yet. Letโs fix that! Since itโs 3 AM on Saturday, Iโll start with yesterdayโs songs of the day.
โEndless Echoโ by Big Blood - one of my usual pacing songs, when Iโm running. Unfortunately I havenโt been able to run in about a year, but this year Iโm trying to ease my body back into it. I definitely need a slower pacing song now. ๐ But listening to this is a good reminder of my old pace and gives me something to work toward. Itโs amazing how much I miss runningโฆ I wanna get back to doing it while my body still lets me.
Big Blood is one of the most prolific bands Iโve ever heard. They frequently release music at dontrustheruin [dot] bandcamp [dot] com and share their stuff for free at Free Music Archive. Rather than try to explain their overall sound, Iโll just recommend visiting their Bandcamp page or FMA and listening to a bunch of their stuff. โEndless Echoโ is on the album Unlikely Mothers.
The entire Lady Soul album by Aretha Franklin - one of my friendsโ teenager is a new Jill Scott fan and we were talking about singers who exhibit big diva energy, so I told her Jillโs Aretha Franklin story. Because it doesnโt get much more diva than Ms. Franklin. A bunch of Ms. Franklinโs songs got stuck in my head afterward, so I had to play this album. ๐ (Anyone interested in Jill Scottโs story can find it on YouTube; itโs short and she told it during an interview.)
Hello @WinglessOne . Well when i saw Aretha Franklin I immediately thought of my favorite color ( pink) and of course her song Freeway Of Love cruising down the freeway in a pink Cadillac.

The Acapella versions are awesome for What it Sounds Like and Takedown. Your Idol is a little odd as an Acapella, but I still enjoy it
โHello everyone. My song of the day is going to be by Poison ( Talk Dirty To Me ). This song this video this band is what the makeup gangster lifestyle is all about. Alot of my broski's grew up on the streets (the mall) we didn't pick up a guitar we picked up a stick of gloss and a blush brush. If we didn't find the makeup gangster lifestyle ( The Pinkies) we would of formed a band and created music. If you want to know what makes me and The Pinkies click watch and listen to this video. Enjoy.
Hello everyone. Tonight down at the pizza parlor is is going to be THE VELVETEERS playing SUCK THE CHERRY .
โThis band is straight up makeup gangster"s in my book. If they didn't turn to a life of music they would definitely be high ranking members in the PINKIES. Please go on YouTube check out there channel listen to there music. This band is straight up Makeup gangster. Check them out.

Hello BIC !!!!. Today my song of the day is by Motley Crue ( Home Sweet Home). This band to me is what the makeup gangster lifestyle is all about. The singer in the video ( Vince Niel) was a big time influence on my beautiful Pink blushed cheeks. No doubt if these guys didn't find music they would of turned to a life of makeup. U come down to the pizza parlor to hang with The Pinkies this song will definitely be getting played on the jukebox. Along with a ton of other songs by the crue. Enjoy!!!!
โHey BIC!!! Tonight at the pizza parlor is going to be Adam Ant performing Goody Two Shoes!!! I highly recommend you check out this video and song. I can remember just like yesterday the first time I saw this video on MTV. My mom was in the kitchen doing the dishes. He looked so cool. I wanted to look just like him.. I broke into my mom's purse and borrowed her lipstick. Then I broke into her closet and borrowed her blouse. A beautiful one with lace trim and ruffles. I went back into the living room and started dancing and pretending I was Adam Ant performing this song. My mother heard the ruckus and came into the living room. What are you doing Sissyboi she asked. Im Adam Ant mom i told her. Oh my gosh you look like a gangster she said. The makeup was in my blood . It was to late. I eventually went on to be the makeup gangster that I am today. Oh well. Hopefully this song and video won't effect you the way it did me. Listen with caution. It might turn u into a makeup gangster too. Enjoy!!!!!
@sissyboi72 - Goody Two Shoes & Hungry Like the Wolf bring back the memories! They both came out about the same time, around my senior year in high school. ๐คฃ
Hi @Titian06 yeah the 80's was a very important time in my life. Pretty much all my tween and teen years . The music from New Wave bands to the Hair Metal bands. The music videos. MTV ( when they played videos). Men wearing makeup leather lace platform high heels. The movies from the 80's ( movie theaters). The mall. All these songs and bands make me think of makeup and fashion and just a happier fun time. I hope they do the same for you. Enjoy.
OMGosh, @sissyboi72 ! I would never have believed you are anywhere close to my age! ๐ฑ Your bestie must be so jealous! You are absolutely right--you describe the late 70s/early 80s perfectly. I was definitely influenced by the 70s and 80s as I'm a bit older than you. I absolutely love music; all genres except country (though I like the older country stars like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline). My fave band is The Who followed by Journey and David Bowie.
@Titian06 Bowie DIAMOND DOGS!!!!! Makeup Gangster 's!!!!!!!!!
โHappy Friday everyone. Tonight down at the pizza parlor my song of the day will be Duran Duran ( Hungary Like The Wolf) . Great song to get the weekend started with. I highly recommend the song and video. Fashion Makeup fun song and video helped shape my imagination. Plus it leads into my next post ( Story Time With Sissyboi ) . It'll post first of next week. Stay tuned. Enjoy.
@sissyboi72 Okay so, two hours ago a couple friends and I (weโre all gen x) were chatting about Duran Duranโs new vs. old music, and the consensus was โtheyโll never top their first 3 or 4 albums,โ and of course โHungry Like the Wolfโ came up in discussion*. The whole chat started when we were thinking of concerts weโve seen over the years. I saw Duran Duran live twice in the โ80s. Wouldโve seen โem a third time had they toured with David Bowie on the midwest leg of his Glass Spider tour. (They were with him only for some of his west coast US & Canada stops.)
Anyway, seeing your post feels super coincidental, so cheers! ๐ Might have to play Seven and the Ragged Tiger or Rio later today.
*Haha, we sounded like such snobby old heads. But I do really like โConfession in the Afterlife,โ the last song on Duran Duranโs last studio album (Danse Macabre). The lyrics arenโt the best, but the song sounds beautiful.
Thank you @WinglessOne for taking the time to read my post and share your memories and thoughts with me. I would say yeah the early 80's for me with Duran Duran was and will always be my favorite. Not just the songs but the videos the image the fashion. The videos were like a little movie. My favorite question to ask people is what's your favorite decade for music. I always assume people will pick the decade they were in the teenage years. For me the 80's. You might have a couple years on me though u might remember the 70's better. If u had to pick a decade of music and movies fashion. Wut would be your favorite?
@sissyboi72 Hmmโฆ my fave decade for fashion, specifically music-related fashionโฆ probably the โ80s. Those were my teen years. I do remember the โ70s though (I lived through almost all of โem) and still have a soft spot for the stage performance outfits women wore then. The 70s saw the 60s fishnets, mini skirts, and go-go boots and said โhold my glitter!โ Had I been a teen in the 70s, Iโd have stylistically been a mix of Chaka Khan, Stevie Nicks, and Sex Pistols.
I was mostly goth punk in the 80s but, in true punk fashion, listened to almost all kinds of music because no one was gonna force me into a single box. ๐ I hated Madonna (and still donโt like her music); I was (still am) a Cindy Lauper fan. Her whole aesthetic vibed with me. So did 80s goth and alt. All that and other stuff was an influence on me and, to this day, carries into my clothing and makeup in some way. Itโs been decades since I last dyed my hair blue though.
And the music videosโฆ man, I miss the days of actual music TV. You can still find a few mini-movie music videos on YouTube by current bands. But yeah, they donโt make โem like they used to.
Again @WinglessOne @Titian06 thank you so much for sharing your memories with me and the BIC. I can't wait till next week. I got a good one to share with you ( BIC). Im going to tell u my story on the song and I can't wait to here yours stories about the song ( of any).It came out when I was so young didn't hear it for decades. Then all of a sudden just came back and brought back a flood memories and feelings.
