Racism

Did anyone see Tarte posting on instgram 3 days ago.No kidding. That's really rude, tasteless, racist, and offensive. Tarte will be in the black list for most Asian.

RE: Racism

Yikes! I didn't see this when it was posted. I am Asian-American—adopted and raised by a Caucasian family, which I only mention because I lack the cultural perspective ingrained via native Asian family—and I've experienced things like this in the workplace before (e.g. a photo of employees making "Asian eyes," which I pointed out to the GM). I was not and am not incredibly personally offended by either example (and doubt either were intended in that nature), but am socially aware and don't mistake my personal level of offense for a reflection of acceptability or widespread public ignorance (willful or passive). Mostly, I'm continually baffled that large companies and personalities apparently don't have better training or better vetting for whoever's in charge of their social media. Whether the presidents or CEOs think being "politically correct" is a pile of garbage or are more socially conscious and don't think in terms of "PC" because it is their norm, one would imagine they'd at least recognize that offending as few people as possible is good for business/finances.

Re: Racism

What is infuriating is the way they're trying to push it out of everyone's mind. Right now they're running a contest, where you need to post an emoji on their Facebook page. You can probably guess that means all the posts confronting them about their racist Instagram post are gone, pushed down from all the new posts. Pretty clever whoever thought of that. I encourage everyone to keep posting on their page, letting them know they can't erase what they did.

RE: Racism

It made the teen vogue news.... very sad to see and read about it. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/tarte-cosmetics-racist-meme-backlash

Tarte's going to lose tons of business for letting someone so obviously young and ignorant speak directly for them. I'm glad to see Teen Vogue routinely stepping up to call things out from politics to this. (Youth isn't always wasted on the young!)

I'm done with Tarte. The first apology was like "hey its not us blame the dumb intern" I wouldn't be surprised if the tweet was from an upper management figure. I'm so sick of ignorance, hate & let's find a scapegoat tactics.

Nah, sounds like a young who doesn't read a whole lot or has yet to finish general education reqs. I hope they were let go and are now feeling compelled to enlighten themselves. (No one of a certain age would write those words except for Trump tweeting from his toilet.)

RE: Racism

I had never even heard of that phrase before but apparently it's a song or something that's been around for years. Who knew? Either way, intern or not, it shouldn't be posted by a big company like that.

Re: Racism

Yes, I saw it, and in solidarity with the Asian community I have decided to boycott Tarte. They used to be my favourite brand, but I will not support a company who posts hate, and then tries to brush it under the rug.

Re: Racism

They deleted it, what did it say?

I saw only the apology.

But why even post something racist when you are a company. Very very unprofessional.

EDIT : found it, omg that is terrible!!! why would they even think of posting such a thing? wow, that is pretty bad.
