@peculiarzmakeup  The ‘80s were my teen years. So much about that decade was great, though plenty about it wasn’t—but makeup wise, it was definitely a fun time! 

In addition to the makeup trends you listed, the 1980s were also very punk, goth, and “new wave” inspired. That was my aesthetic, complete with midnight blue hair. We showed the world just how creative one’s eye look can be with nothing but black eyeliner, though we did occasionally add colorful shadows. Every now and then, we’d go full day-glo with lipstick or eyeshadow. Actually, I remember a lot of neon colors being trendy that decade. Quite a bit of glitter too, though not nearly as much as I saw in the ‘70s. 

I could tag my entire makeup collection as being a continuation of my ‘80s aesthetic. 😂 Anything very colorful, but also all the dark smoky makeup, as well as every “unconventional” shade of anything—that’s a lot to draw from, and sometimes I do so minimally (to this day, I’ll still often wear nothing but brow pencil/gel—which we didn’t really have in the ‘80s—and eyeliner with lipstick… eh, also strategically placed undereye concealer if I’m looking zombiefied). Other times, I go all out with all the pretty colors. And I’ll probably never stop wearing black, blue, and metallic lipsticks.

You have excellent taste! I have heard many things about the 80’s, thank you for mentioning the other trends as well. It’s so neat to see how makeup evolves overtime and the similarities and differences, how trends evolve but have elements of the past. It’s amazing how time can do that. Thank you for sharing. Oh my gosh, I do think the 80s were pretty care free and we really were very much on our own as kids, at least in my neighborhood/ school, etc, lol. Such a vibe with this makeup and hair. I still have some iconic emotional connections to 80s and 90s makeup trends! 

Literally every time I’m in Sephora and see young girls, I think of being a kid/teen and I can’t imagine having access to Sephora or Ulta. We saved up coins to trade our parents for dollars to buy generic makeup from a mail order catalog and wait months for it to arrive.

I can remember when hair styling mousse was invented, haha!
