Shade Finder

Spoiler

Anyone else finding the shade finder tool for foundation isnโ€™t always accurate? I purchased a powder foundation online according to the shade finder tool results and it was way too dark for my face! I ended up making a special trip to a Sephora store and trying the different shades myself. Turns out the shade I ended up buying was not the one recommended by the shade finder tool but it was a perfect match for my skin tone anyway.

My personal suggestion here is that if you need to buy foundation, try it in store before buying it.

@gmehta1001 That's very interesting you bring that up actually because I recently had a weird experience with the shade finder. Personally I haven't used the shade finger for a few years (3-5?), but always thought it was fairly accurate or at least would be able to give me a good idea of a sample range that I should grab. However, during the beginning of the VIB Sale was trying to color match my mom because her favorite foundation was discontinued and she needed a new one. While trying to color match from a different (non-discontinued) brand she used in the past the recommendation for the new foundations she was interested in buying were completely out of wack and clearly at least 3-4 shades too light or dark.

Upon further investigation I also noticed that some of the shades from the selection process are also completely missing (particularly within the YSL line) and I assumed that maybe that due to the traffic the VIB Sale brought in maybe the site was glitching. Not sure if that was the case or if there has been some sort of change in the last few years with the shade finder.

Re: Shade Finder

Usually I rely on the descriptions and try to match it to what I have that works.  @gmehta1001 , I'll just use the shade finder as a starting off point.

Re: Shade Finder

@gmehta1001 I never trust the shade finder.
