Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an “everyday” look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I had some lingering items from the 10x10 and some other items I found while going through my stash that needed to be decluttered. Also, not pictured but I finished the elf lip scrub that was in my 10x10. I have to decide what to work on next.
@infinitebrevity It was just okay for me. I had to use a lash primer with it or I had major raccoon eyes (I have have hooded eyes and oily lids so it is a common issue for me.) It was very wet formula at first but after a few weeks it thickened up and I started to enjoy it more. I liked the roller lash better for length so I layered the two some times. I also think the wand was just too large for my eye shape; it was large, thick, and fluffy. I didn't use it regularly enough to notice lash grow or anything. I personally won't buy a full size but I know my mom loves it.
Ok thanks! @Lazybeautybeast I also have hooded oily eyes so that helps a lot
RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Quality > quantity this month for empties as I got through another deluxe lipstick AND finished off some full-size hair products that have been the bane of my existence this year! Yay!!!! I would like to put a big dent in my full-size UD Vice lipstick (in 1993) and get through a good chunk of my other deluxe size haircare products by year’s end. BUT overall I’m super happy with how October went, and I’m looking forward to hitting my goal of few/no “extras” laying around and mostly/all cruelty-free by this time next year! October 2018 Empties: -Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Chocolate 0.085 g/0.003 oz -Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Honeycomb 1.55 g/0.05 oz -Verb Hydrating Mask 195 g/6.8 oz -Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips 30 ml/1 fl oz -Yes To Tomatoes Daily Balancing Moisturizer 50 ml/1.7 fl oz -Yes To Coconut Coconut Oil Cleansing Balm 120 g/4 oz -Peter Thomas Roth Massaging Bar for Bath 35g/1.23 oz -Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara 7 ml/0.24 fl oz (I’ve been using this daily since Memorial Day so I’m actually at the point where there’s hardly any product coming out on the wand but it really hasn’t gotten dry or flaky! Ive actually used up a mascara within its POA!) -Head & Shoulders Nourishing Hair & Scalp Care with Lavender shampoo 380 ml/12.8 fl oz -Rahua Freestyle Texturizer foil 5 ml -Mineral Fusion Fortifying Shampoo 27 ml/0.9 fl oz -Mineral Fusion Fortifying Conditioner 27 ml/0.9 fl oz -Marajó Nourishing Cleansing Creme foil 7 ml/0.23 fl oz -Marajó Deep Treatment Butter foil 7 ml/0.23 fl oz -Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-in Conditioner 236 ml/8 fl oz
I got more progress on the shades then I thought I would, especially the first two. It's been nice to use things that just sit forgotten. The shades on their own don't work very well but when I used a primer they worked fantastic and lasted my 12 hour shifts.  I'm stopping a few work shifts short as I'll be travelling soon and need to pack my brushes. Next month will be a doozy for me. At work, where I work on these projects, I have only worn neutrals or very very light colors you can't see them...check out next months! I'm going to gather a lot of chit chat from the gossiping hens...
RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Some panning annual and challenge photos! Of my 8 original palettes (first photo) I wanted to work on this year I’m about to finish/de clutter my 3rd I’m focusing on the 2 white/tan shades featured in the 3rd photo which was my 10/10 challenge items! I finished/decluttered 3 soon to be 5 with the palette and brow pencil! I will probably have them out by the end of the week! I finished the juicy perfume that I added into my annual panning bout half way through 2018.im going to keep working on my project/challenge items through the end of the year and then make decisions... I’m focusing on the second large palette in the annual projects (first photo not circled). I will definitely be using as much as I can in that one and saying goodbye!! Everyone enjoy our last quarter of the year to pan and hopefully we’ll have a new holiday challenge to end the year!💕 🖤💀
I managed to complete 9 of my 10 items.  Wearing lip items has been a huge struggle for me lately and I have no clue why.  For the palette, I'm happy it's practically gone. It was brand new (except for a few swatches) when I started using it back in July and I had no clue/intention of finishing it so quickly.  As you can see in the September check in the black shade became extremely dry and started to crumble soon after I hit pan.  After far too many black marks on my beige carpet I finally decided to discard the rest of the shadow.  I hit pan twice more in the dark brown shade before it too crumbled to pieces a few days ago.  Value-wise I do not think these Obsessions palettes are worth it, particularly if you purchase with the intent to use them regularly.  I do however think they are a good way to play with color and are pretty travel friendly; I'm considering at least one of the new versions for this reason but we'll see.
Thanks all for jumping into this project!  For the remainder of the year I think I'm going to try to get rid of additional items that are nearing their end and work on hitting pan in some of the shadows I worked on earlier this year; a panning blitz if you will.
This is amazing, @ElleElleG! You're an inspiration. Bummer about the quality of the Huda palette. They're so small to begin with, too.
Re: This is amazing, @ElleElleG! You're an inspiration. Bumme...
Aww thanks @curlychiquita !  They are indeed small and a bit fragile for travel but I still think they could come in handy if you want to play with different color schemes.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
The hourglass @ElleElleG! You got through so much, yay! And panning blitz, I'm in. A Christmas panning -blitzen- we will go..
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I'm so using that @CC3616 !
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Wow @ElleElleG I’m quite surprised the Huda palette ended up crumbling near the end. I have the Mauve Obsessions palette, but am nowhere near hitting pan so I guess we’ll see if it does the same. Thanks for the heads up and great job finishing almost all of the items you planned to 😊
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@Guessgal I dont think I've ever seen a shadow dry out and crumble like that. Hopefully yours doesn't do the same.  I have the Electric Obsessions too and havent seen the same in that one but I don't reach for that palette very often.
