Make Up Suggestions for Beginner

I’m 26, just getting out of my “Mommy-Stage” postpartum. I’m really trying to figure out where to begin with make up. For now my base items are primer & foundation. Sometimes lip tint. I have tried following the YT tutorials, but it feels like I’m just slapping everything on my face & nothing is contoured. I am a dark skin “chocolate” complexion with a gold undertone. Any recommendations for brands/products?
