How do I look like the Gurus? What am I doing wrong?

I use primer but my foundation is never perfect (as seen on yt) what more am I supposed to do I've watched many videos on flawless foundation my my skin never looks flawless

A lot of them use filters, ring lights and light diffusing boxes when making their videos. IRL, even with tons of makeup, none of them are perfect. Figure out your best features and one or two you'd like to correct and focus on those. Try to make peace with the rest!

Like many other people have mentioned, these gurus all use filters and lighting in their videos (add photoshop to the list for their pictures). Yes, even in videos you can have a blurring filter applied to your face that moves with your face. If you see skin so smooth that you can't even see pores, then it's not real!! All skin has atleast some texture. But you can make your foundation looking the best it can be by focusing on your skincare routine.

it's all in the skincare. not just any product delivers the same results. also you have to remember that they use filters, photoshop, edit lighting, take a million photos until it looks good. but it could be your brushes to apply, the foundation might not be right for your skin, you should also make sure to blend foundation away from center of face

My advice, just try to look like the best version of you. Most of the gurus have training of some sort, and like someone else said, really good lighting.

It's definitely the lighting. Here are pictures of Manny MUA in good vs. bad lighting, for example. If anything, many beauty gurus' base makeup may look worse in real life than that of the average makeup wearer due to the heavy layers they wear, which are prone to caking. They apply their makeup for the express purpose of appearing in photos and on screen.

I feel bad but I almost died laughing at this. I know Instagram makeup looks completely different IRL, but BOY HOWDY is that a dramatic difference!

@Anonymous It's all about their lighting and possibly digital touch-ups  — and this goes double for Instagram. I'm sure if you saw these ladies in person, you'd see the same flaws that all of us have (and maybe even more, because oftentimes makeup that looks great on camera looks terrible in person). Don't be too hard on yourself!

When I'm looking at my makeup and getting critical of my skills. I take 2-3 big steps back from the mirror. That's how close most people will be. Does your makeup look fine from a few big steps away? If yes, you're fine
