Blind Purchases

I am starting this conversation as i answered the Beaity Icebreakers thread that i would teach a course in Effective Blind Purchases.  @itsfi suggested I start a conversation on this .

What is your strategy for a blind purchase?

Do you just try something because it is trendy,  you have used the brand before,  you purchase something because you know you can return it, or  something else?

I, personally,  hate returning things but do make a number of blind purchases during the year.   I choose my blind purchase carefully by doing my research.   I look at Sephora reviews, other beauty site reviews, look at the brands site,  and Google the product for other thoughts especially Skincare.  If a mini is available I will always purchase that first before I get the fill size.

I recently purchased Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum 1 oz as a blind purchase.  I have used the brand in the distant past but read in a number of places it is one of the best  retinols on the  market.  After using the product for a month I am thrilled I got it.  I call that a successful blind purchase.

Re: Blind Purchases

Very interesting thread @CorgiMommy. Anytime I order a mystery box that is a blind purchase. I usually purchase the Beautylish Lunar New Year boxes every year. Some years I prefer the contents over other years. I have listed items in the trade thread and I have not had any issues.

Re: Blind Purchases

@Loretta55 those lunar boxes are fun,  there is always someone willing to trade.

I get the Tatcha box and have yet to get something I liked.

Re: Blind Purchases

I’m rethinking my strategy also @CorgiMommy . The shipping costs from the trades do add up and sometimes it just isn’t worth it.

Re: Blind Purchases

Great idea! I will have to see what blind buys I’ve done recently. I’m fortunate to have many Sephora’s and other retailers pretty close so I try to avoid blind buys whenever possible. I remember last year I did buy Ellis Brooklyn FLORIST Eau de Parfum 1.7 / 50 ml eau de parfum spray as a blind buy because I just loved the bottle so much and I thought the description sounded like one I’d like. I DID end up loving it and so that was successful but I was nervous because Ellis Brooklyn do sometimes have an “edge” to their scents. I’ll think more about this and come back! @CorgiMommy

Re: Blind Purchases

@sister13 wow ,fragrance is a blind purchase i am afraid to do.  Glad it worked out.

Re: Blind Purchases

@CorgiMommy good idea for a thread!

Re: Blind Purchases

@greeneyedgirl107 thanks, blind purchases can be scary but fun

Re: Blind Purchases

@CorgiMommy @I try to only make blind purchases from brands I have a good history with . There’s definitely a handful of brands where I know I like 90% of what I’ve purchased, it feels pretty safe !

Re: Blind Purchases

@Kim888 I agree brands we know makes a blind purchase less scary

Re: Blind Purchases

@CorgiMommy, I hear ya about researching as much as you can on the product and picking up a mini first if it's available. That's awesome that the PTR worked so well for you! Love hearing that.

I'll have to think a little more about how I go about blind buys - it's been a while since I've done one, but I do try to make as much of an informed decision as I can. Oh wait, that's not entirely accurate, my Typology purchase earlier this month was a blind buy. There was a time when I'd pick up something because it was trendy but I do that less so now, unless that trendy something is what I enjoy - so sunscreen is having a moment with the new releases and the season. Skin tints, but I buy because I love it. Okay, will think about a few blind buys and come back with how I approached picking them up.

Re: Blind Purchases

@itsfi going with the trends can pay  off but like any purchase they don't work for everyone

Re: Blind Purchases

What a great thread @CorgiMommy  I bought MERIT Flush Balm Cream Blush Stockholm  as a blind purchase I wanted to try a cream blush honestly I really liked the package and color and gave it a chance and ended up really loving it.
