Sebaceous filaments

I've been using the Clinique clinical clearing gel for them on my nose but have not seen any results. Does anyone have any recommendations for something else topical that worked for them?

Re: Sebaceous filaments

@autumnash I second the recommendations for a daily BHA product. Any exfoliant can help to some degree, but BHA works best for really clearing out pores. If you regularly use a BHA you will notice a significant improvement. I saw below that you already ordered a few products and they sound like great options. I personally use Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid (this might be one of the ones you got) and notice a huge difference in my skin when I use it.  It's most noticeable on my nose with sebaceous filaments and on my cheeks where I have enlarged pores.  I noticed a huge difference within a few days so hopefully you will see an improvement quickly too!

Re: Sebaceous filaments

I received the 'fresh' Umbrian clay toner a couple weeks before prom and I used it twice a day. I found it got rid of it all from my nose. I only use it on my T-Zone to keep everything nice and matte.

hope this helps 🙂

Re: Sebaceous filaments

hi @autumnash ! do you find your skin is particularly oily ? sebaceous filaments are natural and will always be present to some extent (skin, after all, needs oil and is not supposed to be oil-free !). they're not acne so the clearing gel really won't help. if you think they're over producing oil, still, though, there are a few things that may help lessen their appearance, then. firstly, i'd avoid harsh stripping / foaming cleansers. these can over strip the skin and cause, ironically, more oil production in the long run. secondly, i agree that a chemical exfoliant will help too--it will help keep you skin clear of pore-clogging dead skin cells, and will help maintain an optimal pH level which will also help with balancing oil production. the paula's choice BHA suggested below could be a good option and i know does really help loads of people.  but all skins are different, and i personally find my skin responds better to AHA than BHA. so, just in case, i'll also suggest some AHA options: from sephora, i really like the FIRST AID BEAUTY facial radiance pads. they're gentle enough for everyday use. PIXI glow tonic (from target) is good for this as well.

regardless of if you try out the paula's choice BHA or either of the AHAs i suggest above, i suggest you use a night after cleansing. always moisturize. neither of these are instant fixes, so be patience. at first you *may* get a couple of non irritated white heads, that's relatively normal. but if you notice you get a proper breakout, or red angry skin, discontinue use.

Re: Sebaceous filaments

You would have to extract them first before putting on something topically to see longer effect - sebaceous filaments will always come back unless you control the oil production on your nose

Re: Sebaceous filaments

@autumnash I've read that they are similar to blackheads.  I've had great luck with BHA; I only trust Paula's Choice - I use the BHA 9 but she has 1 and 2% as well.  I also believe in mechanical exfoliation.  I also wonder if Retin-A would help you.  And of course oil blotting sheets.  Good luck!

RE: Re: Sebaceous filaments

I just ordered the bha9 and the bha perfecting serum. When do I use each one and how do I apply it? Thanks for the suggestion btw!
