Purging or Skin Reaction?

Hey guys! I have been treating my acne prone skin with topicals for a while and it seemed like everything was under control,no legit breakout in months. My only concern was textured skin. So I hop on the AHA and BHA train alongside glycolic acid toner, niacinimide and azealic acid creams. I see dramatic improvements to my skin within weeks. But alas I am human and wanted more. I did some research and purchased Sunday Riley’s Luna oil thinking nothing of the retinoid as my skin is durable and not sensitive. I wake up the next morning with underwhelming results and go about my day. Couple of hours later my forehead is covered in red, itchy bumps but not actual pimples with heads. But it’s only my forehead ??? So I am tempted to rule out allergic reaction. I am so confused ! Should I push through it or call it quits?

Re: Purging or Skin Reaction?

@soukayna123 you have over done it. Back off the active ingredients, use one active ingredient only. Non-sensitive skin isn't immune to irritation/over usage. Now start with the gentle basics to repair the skin. Are you wearing spf daily? Are you stacking all those products in a single go or what's the schedule of usage?

Re: Purging or Skin Reaction?

Thank you for your feedback! So my recent skin care routine involves massaging the Luna oil at night obviously after cleansing and toner. In the morning I cleanse again, the niacinimide first then the azealic.i exfoliate twice a week with a chemical exfoliant and try to do a clay mask every now and then when I feel extra oily. i didnt think I was overdoing it because of the time difference between all the products ?

Re: Purging or Skin Reaction?

Maybe you're not. Sounded at first all those heavy duty products were being used at the exact same time. Will reread.

In general, yes one can over do it. At any rate, you're seeing irritation.

@soukayna123 If I were to make an educated guess, I’d say your skin is waving the white flag and saying, “enough!”

I would scale back all treatments you’re currently using and bring it back down to gentle daily cleansing, toner, serum, and light moisturizer until this reaction passes. Then, if you want to use all your treatments, rotate them through a few days at a time, but don’t stack them all in a single day. It’s a lot to ask of your skin, in my opinion.
