Back acne

Hi,

My boyfriend has been facing lots of back acne and I’m not that aware of skincare products/ingredients that are best for acne prone skin. He recently got cetaphil acne cream cleanser, but I feel like that’s not enough.

Would anyone have any skincare product recommendations to combat back acne, as well as any skincare tools?

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Back acne

Hi @Amilychee, I'll recommend you some products that works heavenly for back acne.

Mighty Patch Surface - Hydrocolloid Large Acne Pimple Patch Spot Treatmen

Salicylic Acid Body Wash - Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash, Or the Inkey list/Cerave sa cleanser.

A Benzoyl Peroxide Wash - PanOxyl 10% Acne Foaming Wash. Dermatologist highly recommend this product for face, body acne.

A Chemical Exfoliator - AmLactin Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion.

back acne is usually caused by excess oil and dead skin cells that build up over time. It can also be caused by your daily habits. Luckily, with a few simple modifications to your daily routine, you can make those body pimples a thing of the past.

The one that your boyfriend uses uses seems like it's doesn't contain any ingredients that will fight acne. I highly recommend using one of the products, but especially A Benzoyl Peroxide Wash because I used it too, and it worked heavenly.

ALL of the products are ones that I've been using til now.

thanks, and i hope it helps!

Re: Back acne

Hi @Amilychee ! Does the Cetaphil cleanser contain salicylic acid (BHA) or benzoyl peroxide? Those are the 2 great ingredients for acne pretty much anywhere on the body.

I occasionally get back acne. Once or twice a week, I use a salicylic acid cleanser (mine is Paula's Choice CLEAR Pore Normalizing Acne Cleanser 6/177 , but any other good one will do) on a nylon shower towel to wash my whole back. If your boyfriend's skin isn't sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, he could try washing his back with PanOxyl (available at Target and drugstores) a few times a week. I'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide so I can't use it, otherwise I definitely would! That ingredient kills acne-causing bacteria like nobody's business.

When using a BHA or benzoyl peroxide cleanser, your boyfriend should let the sudsed-up cleanser sit on his skin for a minute or 2 before rinsing it off. This gives the active ingredient time to do its job.

1-3 times a week, I use Paula's Choice CLEAR Acne Body Spray (contains 2% BHA; available direct from Paula's Choice or Dermstore), mostly because the bottle can be sprayed from any angle, even upside-down. If my arms were longer and my shoulders more flexible, I'd just apply one of my usual BHA face serums to my back acne instead. If I could use benzoyl peroxide, I'd use Paula's Choice CLEAR Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide 2.25 oz/ 67 mL on my back—though I'd need a long-handled brush or similar tool to apply it to my back.

Resist the urge to go overboard with treatment(s). Consistency and patience are key.
