Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone is also experiencing horrible purging / breakouts after start using Drunk Elephant products? I've started using the Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial once a week, TLC Farmboos Glycolic Night serum every other night and Vitamin C serum every night for two weeks now, I am having horrible breakouts!! I am not sure which product is causing this massive breakouts? When I apply those products, I didn't feel any tingle, stinging sensation and my skin didn't feel sensitive or red at all, so I don't think it's irritating my skin. I have combination skin with t zone area that's acne prone, now I have big painful pimples on my chin, close to my lips, side of nose ! when some of them are gone, it left a big dark mark on my skin. Anyone experience the same thing after using Drunk Elephant products? I would love to hear your experiences and advice. I am 44 years old, I have not had pimple this frequent since I was in my 20s. sigh... (T__T)
The chemicals in DE products are not good for sensitive skin, so I'd stay away if you're one with sensitive skin! I broke out too and I never got acne marks like this before. Their ingredients is just too harsh for the skin.

Vitamin C from DE caused horrible pore clogging & full on break outs for me. It was the only thing I changed in my skin care process. Unfortunate...
I have extremely sensitive skin and mostly dry. Even when I was a child, the doctor had to prescribe specific bathing screams for my face and body because my skin had small breakouts from everything else. I've tried many of the popular "I-swear-by" skincare products over the years and they never worked for me. They either did nothing, left some redness, or caused small bumps on my face temporarily. The Night Serum is the only skincare product in my life (thus far) that not only didn't cause irritation but when I look into the mirror, my face seems so bright, lively, and helps my occasional acnes heal faster. I don't know about the other Drunk Elephant products but the Night Serum worked really well for me. Another product that worked well was Nurse Jamie's Skin Cell Repair cream (but mostly the one for under the eye). If you have sensitive, dry skin, these might be up your ally.
I think if a product like Drunk Elephant works for a skin type like mine, then it's less likely it will work for someone like you, who has a very different skin type. Nothing can work for all skin types because of the limited and special combination of ingredients. I would suggest you do what I did all these years - if it doesn't work for you even when so many people praise the product, you just have to keep looking for something else. Don't look at the brand - look at the ingredients. Don't pick up a product with similar ingredients to the one that caused you to break out, but Drunk Elephant might have products that contain, for the most part, different ingredients. Try those instead of abandoning an entire product line (unless they use the same stuff in all their products.)
I second this. The night serum is my ride of die. I notice a difference when I don't use it for a couple of nights at a time.
That's why the rule of thumb for skincare is try one new product at a time. I usually try a product for at least 3 days to make sure it's ok before adding/changing something else. The vitamin C serum leaves a residue/finish that my skin didn't like, so I probably would've breakout with it. I used Glycolic serum with no problem and haven't tried Babyfacial yet.
One thing tho, all three of those products have some pretty strong active ingredients, so if you are not used to using vitamin C or glycolic acid regularly, then it's possible your skin is suddenly breaking out because you are introducing so many intense products to it.
ps. HOLD UP. I just read "TLC Farmboos Glycolic Night serum every other night and Vitamin C serum every night " Does that mean on some night you use the glycolic AND vitamin c serum together? cuz that's overkill and most probably the cause of the problem.
Yep, me too!
Within a couple of days of using the Virgin Marula Luxury Oil i broke out in tiny pimples all over my face. Such a shame because besides that I loved the product haha. My skin cleared up quickly once I stopped using it!
Hi @coolcalidude !
I haven't used Drunk Elephant, so all I can recommend is to stop using both products and then once your acne clears up - introduce one of the products. If that one doesn't cause any problems, stop using it and a few days later use the other one. Since it could be a single one of the products, or how they interact together.
I would also recommend using a facial oil, like the Clarins Lotus Oil, to help aid the healing/recovery process. An oil can help you avoid any scarring. I've also been enjoying the Clarins booster detox drops mixed into my moisturizer. And use a hot wash cloth as a compress right on your spots!
I'm sorry you have to deal with this! Hopefully you can isolate the cause. Also take into consideration if anything else has changed, like your diet or medication. I started getting cystic breakouts when my pharmacy switched me to a new brand of birth control. It's been really annoying.

@ShannonAlexis @Amysangel, how do you incorporate the Clarins lotus face oil into your skincare routine? I purchased it maybe a year ago when @jemly recommended it but kinda just forgot about it after a few uses. I was thinking it could be mixed and applied with toner or lotion/cream after using my daily serum--does that sound right?
@jisub89 I put it directly on my face after I tone before I moisturize. If you use a serum I will put it on after a serum and before I moisturize. I have never mixed it in my moisturizer but I'm sure you could. I really enjoy the smell and feel of the Lotus oil so I will use two drops, warm in my palms and then press into my skin. Clarins has videos about how to use their products on YouTube so you might want to look on there too.
@jisub89 I just put it directly on my face over or under my moisturizer.
I'm sure you could mix a drop of it into moisturizer/face cream though. Because the clarins booster is also an oil and I mix 2 drops of that into my Caudalie moisturizer. The Lotus oil is thicker, so maybe just one drop of that?
Swear by the Lotus oil! It's amazing and will help your skin heal, recover and stop breaking out.
I've had the opposite experience. I'd been battling jawline cysts for 7 awful months (I have combo/leaning dry skin) - literally tried everything, high-end brands that claim to clarify skin, spot treatments, sulphurs, salicylic oils, peels, masks etc. I bought the Drunk Elephant 'The Littles' set and literally within a week of using it morning and night- all my cysts were gone and now I have clear skin again (going on 6 weeks clear). It honestly felt like a miracle. I haven't tried the Babyfacial yet (not available in Canada, sadly), but I swear by the TLC and marula oil, in particular. I did buy all the full size products from 'The Littles' and have been using it exclusively. It definitely worked for me, but I guess not for all.
You probably saw my posts in the other similar threads! Drunk elephant is great, but only for some people. Everyone else gets breakouts and cysts. Id discontinue use :). Ive gotten into a routine where I exfoliate my face once a week with the dr brandy microfoliation and otherwise use only sulwhasoo on my face. My skin has never been happier.
