Acne products that REALLY work??

I feel like I have tried every cleanser, serum, mask ect. to help stop my acne. I'm in my early 20's but have struggled with constant acne since I was about 10. My skin is combination and not prone to sensitivity. Has anyone found any products they swear by???

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

My dermatologist gave me a few recommendations, when I didn't want to use too many prescription intense products that have nasty side effects. Also, my skin type is dry with hyper-pigmentation in some areas.

1. Sunday Riley Lactic Acid

2. SK-II Essance

3. Mario Badescu or Kate Somerville Drying lotion

4. (For true natural results) I owe so many results to Bahi Cosmetics Sunflower serum, because this is so wallet friendly & the results in my opinion are just amazing.

I went to my dermatologist and she gave me an antibiotic...

I went to my dermatologist and she gave me an antibiotic gel and pill to use twice a day which got rid of my acne. I used it for 4 month and about all of my acne is gone. If your looking for something that gets rid of it or makes it smaller for like a day or two use the mark badescue drying lotion drying lotion but it will grow back.

Hi @kmcintyre!

I agree that tea tree oil is great for oily skin and acne.  My recommendation would be for you to find gentle products to wash your face and then use a product that will target your acne.  A word of caution is to not use too many products that dehydrate your skin, a lot of acne products contain denatured alcohol which is very drying and it actually damages your skin in the long run.  Also, over-exfoliating can contribute to you becoming more oily and/or breaking out.  I'll share a post I wrote about my skincare routine that has helped greatly and I haven't had a breakout in 2 months now.  I used to always have the monthly breakout,.  Aside from the products that you use on your face, your nutrition and stress will also contribute to the health of your skin.  Lots of water and veggies!

I hope you find this helpful!

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

I've tried switching to KBeauty products which really helped alot but I also tried using supplements because it may have been a hormonal thing as well.

After using HUM nutrition's daily cleanse and red carpet together, my skin was noticeably different. Less acne scars and it seemed like my skin got smoother and clearer! I highly recommend them!!

RE: Acne products that REALLY work??

Clinique’s Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion (toner). Has worked wonders for me over the years. I still use it even now that my skin has cleared up to maintain it that way too. It’s the product I can’t go without. And if I have some breakouts, I use it as a “spot treatment” throughout the day and it helps dry them out really quickly!

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

@kmcintyre What is your current routine?

I think you would have success with a gentle liquid cleanser like FAB Face Cleanser.  Next, use BHA; I only rec Paula's Choice.  Spot treat with benzoyl peroxide; I prefer Persa-gel by Clean & Clear.  Also, oil blotting sheets can help when used routinely.  You can also try OTC Differin.

If you need more help, ask your MD for Rx Differin, or see if you are a candidate for Retin-A.  Good luck!

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

I would second @greeneyedgirl107's recommendation of Paula's Choice and their BHA products, especially the 2% BHA. That is still one of the best skincare products I've ever tried especially for the price and the effect it had on my skin. I agree about using a gentle cleanser and possibly looking into OTC Differin. I've also had success with the Drunk Elephant line, but their products are pricey and can be too strong for some skins. If after taking steps like using a gentle cleanser, exfoliating with a BHA every day, and trying OTC Differin, you still see no change in your skin, you probably should talk to a dermatologist and see if you're a candidate for prescription acne treatments. That's what I did and it made a huge difference to my skin long term. A derm can also help you put together a skincare routine if you're struggling. @kmcintyre

Have you checked your nutrition?

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

Pixi Glow Tonic and Sunday Riley's Luna totally changed my skin.  Also, taking zinc supplements totally stopped whatever cystic acne that I had.

What helped me was the body shop tea tree oil and neutrogena oil free moisturizer that you can purchase

at target or walmart. dont let price of things fool you- sometimes the more expensive shit has more chemicals and will cause more acne. Also try differin- that is a lifesavor for deep acne

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

Paula's Choice has many products that may help you. Contact them and the representatives are very helpful. I hope you find something that helps because I had more acne problems in my 20's and 30's than I did in highschool. Be sure not to exfoliate with any kind of abrasive because that will only make your acne worse. And be sure to moisturize with an oil free moiturizer. Good luck.

Re: Acne products that REALLY work??

Oh gosh, I know how you feel about acne! I've been using the First Aids' Cleanser and their Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration. It definitely helped calm my acne down, and my skin is slowly becoming  clearer and smoother. The cleanser is also very gentle so it won't irritate the skin as much! I'd definitely recommend them!

The Body Shop Tea Tree line is really good if you're oily.
