Unused gift card has $0 balance

My gift card was missing a partial pin and unable to be used online so I went in store to use it and they said it showed a zero balance when it should have $50 and to call the number on the card. I called in and they said it had already been used for an online purchase but I was never able to use the card since the full pin was missing. They transferred me over and was given a spiel about how they don’t refund for fraudulent use and couldn’t help further. It was never out of my possession and it was never scratched prior to my attempt so this makes no sense at all. There is really nothing that can be done?
