2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Last Week! - Healthy scalp and hair tips

2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge

Ready or not, 2023 is here, and the Beauty Insider Community is kicking the year off the best way we know how: with our annual Self-Care Check-In Challenge! Whether or not you’re a resolution-maker, there’s something kind of satisfying about the idea of a “fresh start” 🧼 and while we’re big supporters of maintaining boundaries and practicing self-care all year round, it doesn’t hurt to have a little extra motivation to set healthy (and/or relaxing) habits.

Think of this thread as the place to check in with your fellow Community members and share how you’re practicing different types of self-care – they can be inspired by our weekly inspo prompts, or based on your own unique self-care needs or beauty intentions. If one theme doesn’t speak to you – by all means, skip it! You can still stop by to cheer on your fellow Community members! 🤗

  • Week 1 (1/4-1/10): Perfecting your nighttime skincare routine
  • Week 2 (1/11-1/17): Adding some movement to your day (and post-exercise relaxation!)
  • Week 3 (1/18-1/24): Spending extra time on body care (dry brushing, exfoliating treatments, bath time?)
  • Week 4 (1/25-1/31): Organizing your beauty collection (it can be therapeutic!)
  • Week 5 (2/1-2/7): Relaxing with home scents and candles
  • Week 6 (2/8-2/14): Experimenting with a new-to-you wellness trend (supplements, rollers, CBD…)
  • Week 7 (2/15-2/21): Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Week 8 (2/22-2/28): Trying a healthy scalp and haircare routine ◀

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Share your body care tips ‌‌️

Okay, I have a few of these. (Mostly relating to hydration because my skin lives on the dryer side ‌😅‌)

🌸‌ Don't bathe or shower in water that is too hot, it dries out your skin

🍓‌ Pat your skin dry, it pushes moisture back into your skin instead of aggressive toweling

🦄‌ Use moisturizer after the bath to help seal in all the good moisture (adding a few drops of your favorite oil to your moisturizer can add extra awesomeness to this step)

🌈‌ a old silk shirt *I found ones at thrift stores * make excellent hair towels.

Not really body care, I know, but I think it's a good hair care hack and I was talking about after bathing/showering so I thought it was a helpful point ‌😋

Following up: I did it you guys, I started doing little 30-45 minute work out sessions after work. Mostly yoga * my favorite overall body toning exercise * and I pulled out my wee little 5lbs weights. I successfully did 4 small sessions *woo hoo* and I'm still going strong on my skin care goals. The journal is really helping keep me on track, it's so handy! 📖

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Congratulations to you on making your goals!! This helps me a lot mediation day /night & giving myself & others positive affirmations. A few nice words go a very long way!!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Wow, so many great tips, @CynthieLu

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Those are amazing tips @CynthieLu ! Thank you for sharing them! And congratulations on your achievement!!! That’s awesome!! 🎉🎉🎉

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

I hope I created realistic goals @Saradestin 🙏 Short work outs are less intimidating and gives my body time to get used to exercising again, and the journal helps me keep track of my use of my fun tools and hit my retinol goals of 2-3 times per week etc..  😀  this thread had been very helpful and definitely motivating 🩷

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

I am terrible at taking care of my body so this week’s challenge with everyone’s feedback, will for sure inspire me to be less lazy and to dedicate more time to pamper my body.

A bath.... I forgot the last time I took one (I think it was, at least, three years ago) I love baths, but for some reason I always go for a shower

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Three years, @Saradestin, wow! It might be time to try that out again, it is such a great stress reliever.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

I know @eshoe ! It is not that I don’t like it! I love a hot bath but it seems like I never have the time for it! 😅

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

It's a good goal @Saradestin to make some time soon for a relaxing bath 🙂

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

And I have two bathtubs to choose from, I have no excuse @CynthieLu ! 😂

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Lol! At least you have options 😆 @Saradestin

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

definitely bathss and skincare!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

I absolutely love baths. I take one almost every night. A bath definitely helps me sleep.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

I'm on team baths too @curlychiquita  I love a good relaxing soak 🫧 🛁 🙂

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Dry brushing? Unfortunately I can’t say I’ve ever done this, I’ll give it a shot but I usually get a good exfoliation sesh in the shower once a week 😜

I only just showed up now but I can confirm I’ve been doing more movement and more night skin care routine.

this week I could take a bath but I usually do that after a quick shower bc I don’t like soaking in dirty water lol.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Week 3 (1/18-1/24): Spending extra time on body care (dry brushing, exfoliating treatments, bath time?)

I need to start dry brushing again. I used to do it once a week at least. At the moment I exfoliate my body once a week-stomach, butt, legs, arms and hands. I use REN Clean Skincare Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Salt Anti-Fatigue Exfoliating Body Scrub 11.2 oz/ 330 mL #REN Clean Skincare AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum 6.8 oz/ 200 ml Caudalie Vinosculpt Lift & Firm Body Cream 8.4 oz/ 250 mL Tatcha Hinoki Hydrating Body Oil 3.38 oz / 100 mL or Bio Oil, Leanne Grace body butters she also makes an amazing body oil, StriVectin SD Advanced™ PLUS Intensive Moisturizer For Wrinkles & Stretch Marks 4 oz/ 118 mL L'Occitane Nourishing & Softening Shea Butter Foot Cream 5.3 oz/ 150 mL Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream

Since I have dry skin my body wash is Aveeno unscented.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Dry brushing sounds like it would be a great winter skin savior, @SportyGirly125.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

@eshoe @I started doing it last year in hopes it would help my skin look better after having kids. Didn’t have too much luck but it’s better than doing nothing. I don’t have the money to do all the skin tightening treatments or the mommy body makeovers.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

You know, @SportyGirly125 - I think you are on to something there. You say you haven’t noticed much difference, but if you had not even started doing it in the first place, maybe you would be noticing a different type of difference. I feel similar to masking sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Week 3 (1/18-1/24): Spending extra time on body care (dry brushing, exfoliating treatments, bath time?)

I got exfoliating gloves on amazon for the shower which I really love ! They aren't too harsh but do a nice job on my body! Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator - With Bamboo Charcoal Fragrance Free is my fave ! It's the perfect amount of grit without being too harsh ! My mom got me a Molton Brown body wash for Xmas and it's such a luxe experience! I do love the philosophy Falling In Love Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel 16 oz/ 480 mL  ones though!

Has anyone tried Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Firmeza Firming & Debloating Body Oil 4 oz / 100 mL or Nécessaire The Body Cream - Barrier Repair Treatment With 5% Niacinamide + 5 Ceramides 6.8 oz / 200 mL ? I am super interested in both of those new products !
