If you deal with irritation, razor burn, or stubborn ingrowns, this step-by-step routine can help reset your shaving game.1. Start with clean tools.Always disinfect razors or trimmers before use—even new ones. Soap, hot water, and a little rubbing alcohol keep bacteria away.2. Choose the right razor.More blades aren’t always better. If you’re prone to bumps, try single or double-blade razors for a gentler shave. 3. Prep like a pro.Steam or wash your skin with warm water for a few minutes, then let shaving cream sit for at least 2 minutes to soften the hair. 4. Follow the grain.Shave in the direction your hair grows. It may feel less close, but it drastically reduces irritation and ingrowns. 5. Keep pressure light.Let the razor glide—pressing too hard causes micro-cuts and razor burn. 6. Limit repeat passes. Each stroke removes a bit of skin, so one smooth pass per area is best. 7. Don’t over-shave.Give your skin recovery days or use clippers for a low-maintenance trim. 8. Let skin breathe post-shave.Skip heavy creams right away; cleanse with rubbing alcohol to disinfect, then moisturize after a few hours. 9. Go loose.Avoid tight clothes for a day—freshly shaved hair follicles need room to grow out. 10. Exfoliate consistently.Dead skin traps new growth. Use a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant a few times weekly to keep skin clear. A soft bristle ingrown hair brush exfoliates while preventing trapped hairs post hair removal.
