Makeup Madness Challenge 2023

It’s March, and here in the BIC that can only mean one thing… 🥁… It’s time to celebrate the anniversary of one of our favorite activities: MAKEUP MADNESS! Yes, we’re bringing back this fan-favorite challenge for the third year in a row, where our beloved makeup categories go head-to-head in the ultimate showdown to earn the crown of Community Champion. 👑

This year, we’ve retired our previous winners – Mascara (2021) and Lipstick (2022) – and brought in a mix of some new and old categories to face off in some fierce competition. It’s up to YOU to vote on the winner … and share some tried-and-true beauty recs along the way (that’s what we’re really here for, after all).

Going with eyeshadow again! One I use on a regular basis and love for its consistency in how well it performs is the Natasha Denona Glam Eyeshadow Palette.

Foundation for me. I wear light makeup/no makeup makeup looks most days and won’t use any color on my eyes at all, but will not skip foundation or a base of some kind. My favorite right now is Dior Dior Forever Matte Skincare Foundation

I would definitely choose my foundation. It is an important step in my makeup routine. Helps to hide my blemishes and makes my skin look flawless. The best one I have tried so far for my dry and acne scar skin is the Haus Labs and the Hourglass. It is so light and skin like finish, love the way my skin looks after I put this foundation.

ROUND 5 - Lip Liner vs. Face Primer

Sunblock has been doing double duty as sun protection and face primer me for well over a year now, and I'm using lip liner more this year - I love pairing a lip liner with a clear lip balm - so it's lip liner for me this round @TeamBIC! 😊

I've been reaching for either Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner - Pillow Talk Collection Pillow Talk Medium or Chanel Longwear Lip Pencil (162 Nude Brun) this year, but have recently added a couple more lip liners to the rotation for spring - Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Lip Liner Peyote and MAKEUP BY MARIO Ultra Suede® Sculpting Lip Pencil Smokey Pink.

Lip liner. 

Though I like to use a color-correcting primer to neutralize my surface redness*, I don't always use it. I also don't always use lip liners, but I do use 'em more frequently than face primer. I enjoy tweaking lipstick/balm/gloss colors with a base coat of one or more lip liners, and I do still have a few chronic bleeders in my lipstick hoard that need a liner (and sometimes lip primer) to control feathering. 

Last time, I tagged Pat McGrath as having my gold standard lip liner formula for longevity and bleed/feather control. Another good product for that, at a much lower price point, is SEPHORA COLLECTION Retractable Rouge Gel Lip Liner. 

*Folks who have surface redness caused by specific skin issues know that skincare can't always make that redness disappear. I have a great skincare routine, but that doesn't mean my skin never throws tantrums. Somedays I just embrace the redness. Other days, I don't wanna see it so I neutralize and/or cover it.

I’d say lip liner! You can always get away with not using primer if your skincare is super good, but lip liners are a must! Some favs include MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Brow, Eye & Lip Liner 710 Perpetual Fire and Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner - Pillow Talk Collection Pillow Talk Medium

I'm not huge on lip liner or primer, however out of the two I would definitely choose lip liner! I have used and enjoyed the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner , its easy to apply and lasts!
