CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 12.21.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.

FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]
What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. ๐คฃ It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
3 bags loaded with the good stuff. @danielledanielle ๐คฉ
Reading through your tagged items list was impressive. There's some things I've heard of, or used and a lot of products I'm pretty intrigued about.
I don't know if I'll ever take the plunge on VBB but everyone who's opinions I trust seems to enjoy her line.
A three-bag capsule week? Ooooouuuhhh, sounds fun @danielledanielle โฃ๏ธ
I spy the MUFE palette! ๐ I picked it up during one of the sales (I can't remember which one...) and have been meaning to put it to use. Next year (which is coming up so, so quickly!!) - word on the street is that there'll be a newness-related theme for the first week / last partial week of the month ๐
Those PML palettes - the covers alone are mesmerizing! I have a handful that I have defacto treated as collector items. Gonna have dig into those at some point.
Week 51 - The Winter Wonderland Makeup Capsule and/or The "Take 2" / "Do Over" Makeup Capsule
Okay, for these last weeks of the year (eeek! ๐ฌ), I'm going to put together capsules for both themes and attempt (for the most part) to incorporate my most loved products from the year into each capsule all while trying to be selective in what, if any, options I will include.
The Winter Wonderland Makeup Capsule
Primer: d'alba Piedmont Italian White Truffle Double Serum All-in-one Multi Balm
Foundation: Urban Decay Face Bond Self Setting Waterproof Foundation - one of my best finds of the year
Blush: Ami Colรฉ Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick Hibiscus - blush in stick form - gotta love it!. The formula on this one is best suited for me in the warmer months but the d'alba multi-balm should help to give it a little more slip.
Bronzer & Eyes: Victoria Beckham Matte Bronzing Brick - I get it, a winter wonderland look probably isn't super bronze-y. I need just a little warmth and will use the lighter shade in this duo for that and both shades to add some dimension to my eyes before lining with the GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner Bathwater and maybe the outer V. Will curl my lashes and add Yves Saint Laurent Lash Clash Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara Black (not shown).
Lips: Line with Dominique Cosmetics Creamy Fill & Define Lip Liner (Crush), topped off with this lip gloss (clear base loaded with tons of microfine silver sparkle) from the same brand - this was part of a limited edition holiday set they put out last year.
Setting Spray: The UD foundation is self setting but I'll use the Dior Setting Spray to help make the blush last. I'll spray my eyeliner brush with the Dior to help the eyeliner stay in place longer.
The "Take 2 / Do Over" Makeup Capsule
I missed out on the "newness" theme a few weeks ago and wanted to highlight some new-to-me products that I find worthy of being included as part of my larger ultimate makeup capsule collection. For me, I deemed something new-to-me as something I've used for the first time within the last 3 months. All but the SEPHORA COLLECTION Translucent Loose Setting Powder (gratis) fall within that category. Will use the powder with the Beautyblender POWER POCKET PUFFโข Dual-Sided Powder Puff for Setting and Baking (gratis).
Foundation: SEPHORA COLLECTION Reveal The Real 12HR Soft Radiant Skin Tint - this gives me a beautiful, better than natural, slightly blurred finish. Coverage and finish is a cross between two faves - Tower 28 SunnyDays and Urban Decay Bond Foundation. It's a new love. If it were not for one of the many lessons I learned from taking part in this challenge, I would pick up a back up of this one.
Blush: Saie Dew Blush Liquid Cream Blush Chilly (gratis) - another lesson learned - put my things to use sooner rather than later. ๐
Eyes: Since getting a better idea of how to use the felt tip side of the Valentino Brow Trio Eyebrow Liner, I've really been enjoying it.
For eyeshadow, we're going with another stick - this time Victoria Beckham Eyewear Eyeshadow Stick (Carmel). I picked this up when it launched spring 2023 (yes, last year!) but just got around to using it now. Le sigh. This joins the eyeshadow sticks from Bobbi Brown (Golden Bronze) and Thrive Causemetics (Q) as my favorite eyeshadow sticks. The Bobbi Brown has GOAT status and the Thrive Causemetics will get there once I finish my current stick. This VBB stick in Caramel will likely get there as soon as I get through 2 of these sticks (my own personal requirement for GOAT status) - challenge accepted. lol
Mascara is my new love for a simple, every day look - Clio Kill Lash Superproof Mascara - Long Curling
My lips belong to SEPHORA COLLECTION Cream Lip Stain 10HR Liquid Lipstick 80 Honeymoon - I just love this color! ๐
My eyes immediately went to the rectangle.. What palette is this? I must knooooooow @itsfi , it's the bronzer? Right? I'm still wondering if I should've picked up the eyeshadow brick from her, even though I know I have all those colors ๐
Glad to see the newness and the darling snowflake bag, too
Bronzing happens in the winter, though... If you are clever enough to go to a beach ๐
It's the Victoria Beckham bronzing brick (duo) @danielledanielle. It's gorgeous! One of my favorite powder bronzers, and one of my favorite things from her collection. The one hiccup to them (though I could have just gotten a bad one) is that I have to be precise when I close it - no just snapping it shut quickly. I have to slowly and deliberately and softly snap it shut. No rushing it; hardly a dealbreaker but thought I'd mention it. They're refillable - I have the compact and a refill in a different shade.
The eyeshadow bricks are okay. I am actually hoping that she is retiring them to put out a 2.0 version; perhaps something similiar to the shades she put out when she did a collab with Estee Lauder back in the day.
But, back to the bronzing brick. It's worth looking into. Her sale season may have passed us by but Bergdorf & Neiman have beauty sales in the beginning of the year with some gwp's that might make it worth it.
Here are some close up shots.
She recently came out with just a mirror compact. My recollection is that @Buootiful picked that up, but I think that the design of the cover is different.
I am a little embarrassed to say I only have 1 stick in my collection, and that is
Westman Atelier Mini Petite Face Trace Cream Contour Stick Biscuit
And it's a mini ๐ but I did build an in entire capsule around her.

A tube of mascara totally counts to me as stick makeup @CynthieLu , so I see two .. And you only need one, so hopefully you enjoyed putting it into rotation that week
All you need is the 1 @CynthieLu, and the one you have is a beauty! It's a mini too, so how cute is that?! Looove that Sephora bag - it's adorable! And looks roomy too.
Thank you. I think it looks bigger thou because I styled this capsule after my mini biscuit ๐ I didn't want her to look over whelmed. @itsfi It is a cute cloth sephora bag thou and for its size it does have a great fit.
Week 50: The Sticks 2.0 Makeup Capsule
A more streamlined capsule, with options for eyes and lips.
Primer: d'alba White Truffle Double Serum - for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I'll wear it on one half of my face and the other half, no primer, to see how this performs. Today and Friday, it will be used all over - the folks I have videoconferencing calls with don't seem like the type who would be interested in me following up with them on which side of my face looks better. Ha!
Foundation: MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation
Concealer: MERIT The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick
Settting Powder: Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals SPF 30 - No. 3 Peaches and Cream
Eyes: Keeping it simple this week for the eyes, with just curling my lashes and some eyeshadow (either a wash of color or a very soft smoky eye).
Cheeks:
Lips:
The "Fits" - yes, they do fit. ๐
All of them in this convertible fanny pack (from Sephoria 2024: NYC)
Recap/Review: Week 49 The Beautifully Bold & Delightfully Demure Makeup Capsule
Last week's capsule was a fun one. My capsule inclued a lot of products I hadn't reached for in some time so it was nice to revisit many of those beauties. I caught a cold last week so there were a couple of days when I wore very little, if any, makeup.
Cheeks: I like the ease and convenience of having all three cheek products in one palette. The blush is more pink than I typically wear but it blends out to a more diffused shade of pink. I used this trio for last week's princess/prince theme for theCheek Challenge Winter 2024/25, The Frost, The Glitz and The Wardrobe.
Eyeliner: Non-liquid eyeliners are one of those beauty categories where I, for the most part, can rein a little better. Most non-liquid liners don't hold up so well against my eyes, lol. So I don't buy or keep many on hand - these were pretty good. I do love the colors.
Lips: 'tis the season for moody lips. The Fenty and Rare Beauty swatch deeper, darker on my arm than how they wear on my lips. On the other hand, the Florasis looks brighter, pinkier red than it does on my lips. I tried making adjustments to the photo but that just made my arm look ... radioactive. ๐
๐ Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Kind Words Matte Lipstick Gifted - this was a surprise winner for me. I thought it would be too dark, but it's been lovely - I've worn it softly, blended out for a more stain look as well as full color, and I enjoy both. So much so that there's a full size on the way.
๐ Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Kind Words Matte Lipstick Lively is not for me though. It leans warmer and pulls more orange/coral on my lips than I like. I was reminded that I had this sample card when I saw @peculiarzmakeup post her looks with it - both shades look gorgeous on her, btw.
โ I'm debating on whether to keep the Pat McGrath Labs x Bridgerton cheek trio palette. The colors are pretty and I don't think I have another just cheeks palette but I'm not sure how much I would reach for this one. ๐ค Unless I'm swayed otherwise, my plan is to keep it in my stash until / through summer/early fall 2025 to see how it works out when it's warmer out and my skin leans more combo.
You have so much variety in stick products @itsfi I'm amazed ( but not surprised ๐) you have a stick for everything. ๐
For your recap of your demure capsule, the PMG Bridgeton isn't something you'd keep just because? Did you collect any other pieces from that launch?
@CynthieLu, I don't how I accumulated so many stick products in my collection (okay, I mean, I do know ๐), but I do love the ease and convenience of stick makeup products. I'm sure it started with foundation sticks and then eye shadow sticks and ... recently I've been distracted by cheek products in stick form.
The PML x Bridgerton trio palette is pretty but I don't love all of the shades. I can make them work for me but it's not a palette I reach for often. When I picked it up, I was looking for a cheek palette that had all I needed for a daily cheek look and I just haven't been reaching for it before or during these weekly capsules as often as I would like. It's in that "like new" condition that I feel like could be a very nice treat for someone who could get a lot more use out of it. I'm trying to remember ... this is likely the only thing I have from either of the PML x Bridgerton releases. Knowing me, if I had picked up anything else, it would probably have been a lipstick.
Ahhh, I can understand that. Did you ever find a cheek palette that had everything you were looking for?
When it comes to the Bridgeton releases I imagined them as a collector's collection. They had released some really prettily packaged items. There was this face powder if I recall, I really admired what they did for that release esthetically. @itsfi ๐
@CynthieLu, one of the older Hourglass Ambient Lighting Unlocked palettes (or maybe both) would be my choice for a one-and-done cheek palette (powder formula) - one of the older 6-pans or the 4-pan they released 4 or 5 years ago. Maybelline also had a trio palette that was nice - they made (maybe it's still around) two different versions; interestingly, the deeper one suited me better.
Usually with the palettes aimed for "light" complected skin tones, the blush is more pink than I prefer and the bronzer is sometimes too warm (not enough red in it, if at all), but on the flip side, the blush in many medium palettes lean too warm or orange/peach for my liking. I swatched the ILIA The Ethereal Baked Face Palette - Long-Wear Bronzer, Highlighter & Blush (a beautiful palette) in store when it first released and I just thought to myself, "hmmm, if only I could mix and match..." ๐ I'll aim to get one or both of those Hourglass palettes in a capsule next year.
Week 50! Thatโs dedication, @itsfi. Right now I donโt own any foundation or blush sticks although I loved the Westman Atelier when I owned them. I enjoyed reading your thoughts!
Thank you @curlychiquita; some weeks have been easier than others. There's usually something on BIC I take a deep dive into. In the past it's been masks, nail art, eyeshadow panning, and hauls, though that last one may just always have ebbs and flows. ๐ This year it's been primarily this and the book thread. This one has been good overall for using my makeup and passing on things that don't suit me now and using what does.
I love the convenience and ease of stick products - blush sticks I really just got into this year, with the Ami Cole and Rhode ones being the ones I reach for most often if I'm wearing blush. I do like the WA petal shade though as well.
Ahhhh, foundation sticks. Dior, Make Up For Ever and LYS Beauty are my current faves in that camp. I like the CdP stick for undereye concealing too.

You have such an impressive stick collection @danielledanielle. ๐๐ And there were more that didn't make the cut? What a stash you must have!
Ah, thank you. @CynthieLu , there's one that arrived yesterday ๐, plus a couple of blushes, more eyeliners and my Nars Cruella.
I hope someday Ami Cole expands her foundation stick shades, @danielledanielle! I would love to try it.
@curlychiquita, yeah, I know that's an issue that came up in the Q&A for the product.
Have you tried out/think you have a match in
LYS Beauty Triple Fix Blurring and Hydrating Skin Tint Foundation Stick? I would say it's comparable, it's a bit more emollient, but very skin like.
