Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2024

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

@CynthieLu, they've done a phenomenal job growing their business - their products are fabulous, they have great marketing and good business strategies. I like the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask 1.17 oz/ 33 g - it's always been one of the hydrogel masks that I prefer. This one stayed on my face better than the previous version. Very sorry for the delay in posting my thoughts. I was trying to find one of my older posts on the mask, to see if I could find the ingredients list from that version. I went through 300 pages of post and found the last time I used the mask - my last one of the older version (probably a little outdated, eek!) but sadly I did not take a photo of the INCI list on that mask. Sigh. In any event, the deep and brief version - the sheet mask makes a lovely treat - for yourself or someone else, or both. Worth picking up. Something to note - Glow Recipe kept the price the same - no increase even though some time has passed since the mask was first released.

Is a very easy to wear SPF, it dosen't feel heavy or greasy at all. Having a sunscreen I enjoy wearing is really helpful, especially when I try to wear it everyday. 
Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder Universal is handy after SPF, I use it after on my brows, nose and chin. It really helps take away any shine and helps give some grip for my brow products. Very handy and it's a super cute mini too. 💖👌
TOM FORD Lip Color Lipstick Slip (actually Insatiable but I couldn't tag it 🧐)
Armani Beauty Prisma Glass Hydrating Lip Gloss with Squalane 
A solid no fuss gloss that gives me some hydration and pairs well with my TF lippies.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette Evil Eye This does so many things. Setting powder, bronzer,  contour, a beautiful warm highlight and blush options. 🤎✨ This one item takes the place of so many singles. 
Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Lengthening Mascara this mascara gives me some great length and a fun pro, it washes off easier than some other mascaras I've tried. (Gratis)
Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Goals Volumizing Brow Gel & Pencil Duo 3 
Solid brow products and hands down my favorite this year. 🏆 

 

Everything fit really well with lots of space in an old Elisabeth Arden clutch makeup bag.

This is a nice capsule @CynthieLu - minimal in terms of number of items but you can maximize how each product is used, especially that Hourglass palette. 😍 I have a mini of the DM balm too - it's adorable. Do you apply it with your fingers? A brush?

This one was an easy one to put together, this is my essential no fuss face. @danielledanielle  Enough to do a no makeup-makeup look, or just something a little minamilist. I can use some of these products creatively to create shadows or liners but I might have to relook to see if they are safe for those parts of the face before I try. 🤔

I think it might even fall into a fast and furious 6 routine.... But with 8 🙈

Week 43: Global Capsule, kinda minimal 🤷🏽‍♀️

 

I tried to make it minimal by keeping to 20 products or less.  I got it to 23? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Also, definitely had to think on this, because what non-US brands do I have 🤔 So, I focused on lips first.."Lands of Lips"

Week 43 (part 1) - The "How Low Can I Go?" Makeup Capsule  

My plan is to do a couple of capsules this week, one for each prompt. I'll be going the minimalist route for part of this week with this sticks capsule - 6 products.

Primer - I'll use my SPF as primer with this capsule. If I feel like I need something else, the Westman Atelier Lit Up Glow Highlighter Stick will do double duty as primer (which I learned from @curlychiquita) and highlighter.

Foundation & Concealer - ILIA Skin Rewind Blurring Foundation and Concealer Complexion Stick - as long as I keep my skin well moisturized and hydrated at the outset and throughout the day, this foundation stick should work out pretty well on my normal-to-dry skin.

Cheeks - Bronzlights. It's happening. 😁 And, this week, it's happening with the combination of DIOR Forever 24H Skin Contour Stick Sculpting and Bronzing Face Stick, Ami Colé Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick Hibiscus and Westman Atelier Lit Up Glow Highlighter Stick 

Eyes will be all about ... shadonzer. 😅 I'll use the Dior Contour Stick as eyeshadow and also as contour for the nose bridge. Depending on how oily my eyelids are, I may pull in an eyeshadow primer, most likely the about-face primer - I've really enjoyed using it. My lashes have been loving the pairing of the Shiseido Eyelash Curler and the Yves Saint Laurent Lash Clash Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara Black, which has become my favorite mascara! A major feat given that for more than a decade, a Lancome waterproof mascara has held that title. 

Setting Spray - ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Mini On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray 1 oz/ 46 mL 

Lips - Ami Colé Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick Hibiscus doing double duty as a lip product. I'll reach for a red lip product to try out as well, to keep momentum going with the red lip battle. I'm thinking I may focus on the lip liners this week. 🤔

I'm happy with how this minimalist group of beauties is shaping out. We'll see how the shadonzer 🤣 works out, but I might end up adding one more stick to this capsule - Bobbi Brown Golden Bronze or Thrive Causemetics Bronze eyeshadow stick - they've been my two favorite eyeshadow sticks for a couple of years now. 

I'm also very happy that everything (including the lash curler) fits in this small little bag. I'm repurposing the bag from the LANEIGE Bouncy & Firm Plump, Firm & Glow Set for my makeup this week.

For the latter half of the week, I'll do a K-beauty focused makeup capsule and will post those items in the next few days.

Incredibly inspiring! I love the thought of 6 products It’s such a neat way of assessing which aspects of need are important at the time as far as makeup needs! Love this challenge I feel this would be also great for the Sephora Six - Fast & Furious Edition

I’m all for quick and easy makeup. 👍🏼 I try (though don’t always sicceed) to mix up my capsule sizes - some weeks a more minimalist mix of products and other weeks more variety and options. @danielledanielle, I contemplated putting the jumbo size of the ONE/Size on my list for the holiday savings event, but alas, that will be a lot more than I need, as I have a couple of mini's and a regular full size already. It's a good setting spray; a little drying on my skin but I can work around that with a good skincare prep and my Gucci Brume de Beauté Beauty Mist 2.7 oz / 80 mL to refresh and rehydrate over the course of the day.
