What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
Oh, I recall learning a little about some city names when I I was there. The dream catcher makes sense and is right to be included. Yes, dark history. 😔 A history sadly a part of many countries and cities.
Ahhh, thank you @heartsmyface for the proper pronunciation of Coquitlam. It has such a beautiful meaning, and that photo really captures all of its meaning.
@itsfi I have never heard anyone say it like that. We say co-quit-lam
@itsfi you only see polar bears waaay up north. and you really don’t wanna see them.
ha
if it’s black fight back
if it’s brown lay down.
if it’s white say good night.
Ohhhh!!! This is great! I bookmarked your post and took a pic for my notes. I’m going to try to remember this poem about the bears. It’ll be a good thing to know. I learned something new, a lot of things with just that poem (and thank goodness I’m not learning it the hard way. 😬) 🐻 hmmm, gonna need more options for bear emojis 🐨🐼🧸
@itsfi its a cute rhyme to spout out about bear attacks but may be a bit too simplified. It’s always best to refresh your bear knowledge if you know you’re going into bear country. it helps to avoid the attack altogether.
hahaha @heartsmyface, yes, indeed. I will just plan to go with the avoidance approach! 😁
That's beautiful. Excellent researching skills @ather! I'm adding it to thing to read up on.
Yes, that's it!! @ather great sleuthing! 👏👏
@CynthieLu Thank you!! 😊 I’m very good at research projects!
@itsfi @CynthieLu I see a dream catcher by the plate of Poutine and I think the building is Parliament building maybe. Is the lake Lake Louise?
Ahhhh, a dream catcher. Good eye @ather! I didn't realize it was a completely separate item. 😔 That makes sense. As does the poutine!!! I have added ingredients I'm missing onto my grocery shopping list for the week.
Can you get poutine gravy where you live? @itsfi I made thanksgiving poutine for supper today! I wish I could send cheese curds in the mail for your poutine!
Yum, you made poutine?! I bet it was delicious, @ather! I found a recipe for poutine (complete with gravy) by a Canadian food blogger, so that should get me close to it. Or, I can order poutine gravy (either canned or in one of those seasoning packages) - the recipe I found seems doable and I'm planning on going that route. There's a specialty cheese shop in the city (I'm sure there's more than one but there's one I'm thinking of in particular) - I'll call them later today to see if they carry cheese curds. I did see some packaged cheese curds I could order online and have delivered to the house next day. Worse case scenario, I'll go with Trader Joe's breaded cheese curds and make do. Potoes for the fries I can get; they'll be baked a I don't have a deep fryer - in years past, I might have gone out to buy one but I'm less inclined to do so.
@itsfi It sounds like you are all set! I can’t wait to hear how it tastes!!
@ather, I'll definitely let you know. But, I have good and bad news. The local cheese chop has cheese curds in stock. The bad news? They're not the white cheddar ones and only one of the the ones I've tested squeaks. I'll put them to use over the weekend and we shall see how it goes.
@itsfi hmmm interesting. Were they warm when you got them? Or in the fridge? Yay for squeaks!
No, not warm. They were in the fridge. The company that makes the cheese curds has yellow cheddar and white cheddar ones. The cheese shop just had the yellow cheddar ones @ather. All good - it just means I will try another round of poutine with the white cheddar cheese curds when I find them. 😉 I'm going to hold off on poutine though for a while. So filling. So good, but so filling. #foodcoma
Lol, Polar Bears are only waaaaay up North but Canada is home to so many bears. I've seen my fair share whenever I'm out of the city and in the woods or back country. ( I've never seen a polar bear though that wasn't in a zoo.)
I look at the image of Canada Place and I see a plate of poutine. 😅 @itsfi
This is a photo from my hubby's hometown up north, from our visit 2 years ago.
That guy was coming in town far too often despite many attempts to deter him. This was a neighbour and I would never have gotten this close, and I wouldn't advise it. Eventually they caught him an escorted him far from town.
The last image of the building is a toughie. The green roofs are common in the government buildings, all the copper is green now from time. But I cant definitely say this is any parliament building I've seen, thou it would make most sense if it was a smaller mini'ed up version of Parliament Hill in Ottawa. I hope someone knows or recognizes it, but that's my best guess. 🔎
@CynthieLu @itsfi Hmm didn’t know polar bears a popular here. I feel like I see more black bears or grizzlies. We had one back east that played chicken on the highway until he met his match with a semi!
Maybe not popular but we have like an important 2 thirds of the world's population of polar bears living here. @ather only the very like way up there Northern communities have to deal with them. 🐾 🐾 Thank goodness imo. I like our peaceful black bears. 😅
(Fun question, what's a group of polar bears called?)
