I have had celiac disease for about 6 years so I know a lot about gluten. Remember to have designated gluten free peanut butter, tub butter, any spread that can go on bread, AND A SEPARATE TOASTER. Also: no beers or anything that has soy sauce (yup, soy sauce has wheat). Avoid all fried foods because most likely fries are also fried with chicken tenders or other breaded items. And NO rice crispies (they contain malt which is barley which is gluten). No malts. It takes time to adjust to a gluten free lifestyle. There are some good gluten free pastas. Rice is always good. There’s some gluten free soy sauces. Start out with some gluten free brownie mixes and try to find a gluten free all purpose flour that you like (I like Krusteaz). Trader Joe’s sometimes has good gluten free stuff. Good luck on your journey!!!

Hi @TheBeautyChef !  I appreciate the opportunity to ask some questions.I know of someone who suffers from insomnia. Isn't serotonin somehow related to the ability to sleep well, and doesn't it enter into the body via the gut?  This person has celiac disease, so can't have gluten; do starches like whole grain bread encourage sleep?.  Would an increase in foods that contain tryptophan (converts to serotonin in the body,) be helpful for better sleep?  Are there any supplements other than melatonin (which this person can't take) that could help? I don't know if my facts are correct.Thank you so so much for your time!

The idea is to stay away from chemicals and pills because they cause a lot of other issues , for example; over release of hormones which could lead to acne etc. So I don’t suggest Benadryl or melatonin. make sure you aren’t drinking anything caffeinated 5 hrs within your bedtime . Drink plenty water right before . I like going to herbapharmacy section at Whole Foods and they have liquid essential oils you can put a dropper full in your water or juice and they have it for everything from immune support to neuro function and sleep . I have some kava which relaxes my nerves and helps me sleep personally. Very pungent taste though, they have others for sleep with lavender extract etc which prob def taste better. I hope this helps atleast a little!

Love the group idea, and glad to join! I look forward to hearing what everyone can share  about wellness, especially as it relates to self-care!I'm all about hydration - internal and external, and that's the biggest thing I stress in my household. I love a good infused water and avocado-coconut oil hand mask on any day!

I've been looking for a thread/group just like this and totally support Sephora adding a cruelty-free filter - or even a separate section!  I look forward to seeing what others recommend when it comes to all things cruelty-free skincare and beauty products. I'm currently looking for a cruelty-free summer fragrance - any ideas? Thanks in advance!

@TheBeautyChef  this is why I don't use body lotion...although getting older and drier, and also wanting to help all the blemish marks, makes me rethink that.  I saw one by juice beauty that I wanted to try... this is also why I hate this car-centric society, and how no one seems to want to examine the effects it has, despite examining every other area of society and life and health...

Thank you so much! I think it’s been many different factors with school, things at home, & with people at school but I’m doing a lot better with everyones help! Taking care of my self and using apps and doing a to do list has really helped too! There’s been rough days where I have been taken out of a safe environment and put in an environment where I don’t feel safe and I feel overwhelmed but I’ve been able to calm down and find a place where I feel safe.

@Jennyliz29 You mentioned a pollen allergy? I have terrible allergies and my whole body breaks out in hives, among other severe symptoms, if I forget to take my allergy meds daily (I use the Zyrtec gels). Antihistamines could help reduce the severity of your allergy symptoms and you can find many of them at stores. Seeing your doctor and an allergist to conduct an allergy panel test helps a lot too so that you'll know what to avoid and how to treat it in the future. This season has been one of the worst so far

Regarding the squalane vs squalene debate, I have had allergic reactions to products labelled with plant-based squalane before. Often enough that I will no longer use any products with it. I just don’t trust the chain of supply to ensure it’s actually plant-based and not from fish.

For candles try Lafco meditation room--it is divine. Simpatico has a great lavender candle. For oils i love josie maran argan oil--it comes in light and regular. You can also use in hair. I would stay away from products with too many essential oils. I am so sorry to hear about your friend and will be praying for her!!! Please keep us posted. @Libellules

I tried this product via moon juice's site directly.  It did not make any noticeable difference for me. That said, everyone is different and what works for others might not for others. I'm glad you saw an impact. I will say that their beauty dust product is amazing for me. Separately, St. Johnswort, Gaba, Ashwaghana, tulsi--these all work for me when I take them. But, for anyone considering, be sure to check with your doctor. Sometimes these types or any supplements can cause interactions for some folks who might be taking other medications or with Kidney issues. As an FYI I do also like the StressCare from Himilaya. I also use breathing techniques and a method that helps me be more present (look at five things, hear five things). Finally, doing some form of cardio helps me. Again, i am so happy you are feeling better!!

I just mentioned something related in another thread.  Cruelty-Free Kitty is a great site for finding tons of ethical brands and in-depth information about them and the non-cruelty free brands.  I only recently discovered that Sephora's own house brand isn't cruelty-free; I assumed "Clean at Sephora" included cruelty-free.  Apparently, not - my mistake for assuming.  I've also noticed a greater difficulty lately in finding rewards bazaar products, beauty offers, and Play box products that are cruelty-free.  I've only had the Play box for a couple of months, but I think I'll be cancelling it if it contains mostly unethical products that I'll never purchase.  I don't see much point in remaining a Sephora customer if I can't use my accumulated points for anything.  Especially as there are plenty of other stores with great rewards programs, as well as similarly priced beauty boxes, that are far more cruelty-free-friendly, if not 100% cruelty-free.
