When we think of "self-care" we most often think of our physical health and we sometimes forget that mental wellbeing is another very important part of self-care. It's especially difficult when we're dealing with the rush of everyday life (work, school, family, etc.) So many negative things happen on a daily basis - in our lives and in others', which we see on the news. Since mental health and physical health go hand-in-hand, this thread is an attempt to break the cycle of thinking negatively in hopes that we all start to think in a more positive way and, in turn, see our physical health boost as well. Even when it seems like nothing could get worse, there has to be something we can smile about.
Join me in sharing with the community one good thing (big or small) about your day!
@scott1201 Thank you for saying that! It’s not often we get to feel validated in our need for self-care. ❤️
@joragroy this is such a fantastic thread idea and a great use of the Wellness Warriors group - thank you for starting this thread!! I am going to check in here more often.
I have a small win to share this Monday morning. I tend to think a lot about how I should wake up early and workout but when my alarm goes off I tend to let it ring to catch some extra zzzzs.
This morning I signed up for a yoga class and actually made it! Of course I was 30 seconds too late for my bus and watched it drive away at 6:30 am - and yes I was running after it waving my arms in the air 😄 but luckily I caught the next bus and just barely made it to my class.
This was a great start to my week and I want to see if I can get into a rhythm. If anyone has tips on motivating yourself in the morning please share!
@KatieBT Great job! Yoga is one of these things that helps me be more mindful and clear my head. 6:30am that is to be applauded!
@lnum isn't yoga the best? Sometimes I just need someone to remind me to breath 😄 And thank you very much, I'm taking a virtual curtsey right now!
@KatieBT And to relax the shoulders, I don’t know how or why I have them up to my ears 24/7. 😂
Have you ever taken a restorative class with guided meditation? It’s been awhile since I did that and I think I might do one again!
@lnum I usually avoid restorative classes but that sounds very relaxing and healing. My “yoga” is in a hot room with a lot of and challenging poses.
Clean hosted an an event at a meditation center last year and it was so nice to disconnect from the world in the middle of the day. We don’t have them in SF but you should visit! I’ll PM you the info 🙂
@KatieBT I remember that event I think @darkiceis was there! I will check out the info!
@KatieBT Good for you, beating the morning funk and still getting to your class on time! Especially on a Monday! I am the same way when my alarm goes off... 🙊 I agree that we could all use some tips for motivation. Thanks for stopping by, Katie and have fun with yoga!! 😀
@joragroy thank you, I felt like it was a big feat for me! I have been so groggy in the morning and I hope I can make a habit of getting up with more energy before it's time for new year's resolutions.
@KatieBT That would be awesome. I feel like sometimes we just start New Year’s resolutions cold turkey, if that makes any sense. 🤣 Preparing ahead of time seems like a great way to actually help someone stick to their goals. You’ve inspired me. Maybe not get-up-at-5:00am inspiration, but inspiration nevertheless!
@YaGirlMayKnow That sounds so therapeutic! I used to do something similar a few years back when I found myself homeless. I hope things get better for you soon. Thank you for sharing!
I’ve been experiencing a lot of stress this month, but I’m so grateful for my hubby who surprised me with a mango slush from Sonic this morning. 🥰 It helped me relax a little and it gave me an excuse to take a break from adulting (and this heat) for a while.
@QueenChayenne Sounds fun! Glad you enjoyed your day. 🐠
