An unpleasant Experience

I had a rather unpleasant experience at Sephora the other day. I went to buy and try a new moisturiser and was stereotyped by the an older lady a beauty “expert” at Sephora, in her 60s maybe.
She confirmed my ethnicity and then went onto make a rude remark - “saying, Indian women really like this product because they are looking for skin brightening products.” And when I said, I am not looking for a brightening product but a hydrating product  - she ignored my comment and said but you are already fair and don’t need it. She must have sensed my irritation while I had my back to her, and as an afterthought said “Indian women have such lovely hair”. I thanked her and walked out the store without buying anything.

I admit there is a cultural obsession in India with fairer skin but it is being socially addressed in its own way.

I just want to share this because it is not something you’d want to hear or except from someone who is literally paid to help you choose. I guess am disappointed more than anything.

Re: An unpleasant Experience

HI @NiloferH I am so sorry to hear about your recent store experience! I will send you a PM to further assist.
