Our Beauty Insider Community Forum is Retiring 🍹🏖️👋🏽

To our bold, creative, and always curious Beauty Insider Community Forum members:

 

We’re sharing a bittersweet message today—this coming August we will be retiring this Forum. We know, we’re bummed too.

For more than 15 years, our Beauty Insider Community has been a place for Sephora die-hards to talk about their favorite products, ask questions about routines, and show off their favorite looks. While this was a difficult decision, we've loved seeing this group thrive and we're incredibly proud of what we've built together.

 

We'll be here every step of the way as we start to wind things down. 🤝 Here's what to expect along the way...

  • June 3: The Forum will become read-only and will only be accessible on desktop or mobile (no more app!). This means that you have until June 3 to make your final contributions to your favorite threads (Masking Challenge! Shop Your Stash! April Hauls!), revisit any favorite posts, and connect with your fellow BIC-ers.
  • Your Community profile will also be retired on June 3, and your profile photo will be replaced with Winky. REMINDER: Community Gallery is not going away, so your Gallery posts and profile are here to stay!
  • Mid-August: Community Forum and its posts will no longer be accessible.

We are immeasurably grateful to you for your engagement and enthusiasm on this platform over the years. You made this a safe space where everyone felt seen and accepted. We may be signing off here, but you will always be welcome at Sephora. Thank you for everything!

When is the last day I can use the Forum?

The last day to contribute new posts and content to the Forum is June 3. Starting June 3, Forum content will remain available in a read-only state until early August, so be sure to copy or take any screenshots you may want to save in the meantime!

 

Will I still be able to send private messages (PMs) to other community members?
Private messaging will no longer be available once the Forum becomes read-only on June 3. After that, we hope you’ll continue connecting with fellow shoppers in other ways by posting in Gallery, Ratings & Reviews, and Q&A.

 

If the Forum is going away, how do I get in touch with Sephora?

There are still ways to connect with us! Find us on social, or head to our customer service hub here: sephora.com/beauty/customer-service

 

Will Reviews, Q&A, and Gallery continue to be supported long‑term?

Yes! We hope you continue posting your selfies, shopping hauls, and videos on the Gallery, sounding off on products in Ratings & Reviews, and sharing your beauty expertise in Questions & Answers on product pages.

 

What happens to my profile picture?

Customized profile photos will be going away on June 3 as part of the Forum closure.

 

What happens to my username or nickname?

Your Community username is here to stay! It will continue to be associated with any Gallery posts, Ratings and Reviews on product pages, or Question & Answer content you share.

 

What happens to my badges, ranks, or status levels?

We will say goodbye to Community badges and ranks (for example, FRESH FACE II, RISING STAR III, ICON I) when the Forum retires. Your Beauty Insider tier (Insider, VIB, or Rouge) or any progress on active Beauty Insider Challenges will not be affected! Your BI points will also be unaffected.

 

Will all my content go away?

Only your Forum content—including your profile (sephora.com/profile/me) and posts—will be going away as we say goodbye to the Community Forum. We encourage you to continue sharing content with your fellow Sephora shoppers on the Community Gallery, Ratings & Reviews on product pages, and Questions & Answers on product pages!

 

Is there a way to save my posts?

We encourage you to save down any photos or screenshots you want to keep of your beautiful Forum content before it closes! To see all of your posts, go to the Forum home at community.sephora.com and then click “My Posts” to see your activity history.

 

How long will I have access to save my content ?

You will have the ability to screenshot or save any of your content until the Forum closes in August.

 

What will happen to all my profile/account information?

Your Community profile (sephora.com/profile/me) will go away as we say goodbye to the Community Forum. You can continue to view your other Sephora information in the following places:

-Beauty Preferences: sephora.com/profile/beautypreferences

-Beauty Insider Summary: sephora.com/beautyinsider

-Account Settings: sephora.com/profile/myaccount

 

Will old Forum content redirect somewhere else on sephora.com?

Starting in August, previous Forum threads will be redirected to relevant shopping pages on sephora.com or, in some cases, the Gallery.

Just started following you on Ulta. My handle on there is RoseLeia. Haven't really used the Ulta site much, but if I can stay connected with people from here I'll definitely be more active.

@Shosh85 I wish we could transition to the Ulta site, but it's such a mess!  And they shut down Makeup Alley a while back.

First, thank you @TeamBIC —every BIC admin and mod—for all your efforts to keep this community running over the years. I sincerely hope BIC’s shutdown doesn’t put any of you in layoff danger. That’s actually my biggest concern about this, since I know how bad a time it is to be laid off right now. I hope all of you land on your feet within (or outside) Sephora. ❤️

 

Next, I kinda saw this coming but hoped I was wrong. Sephora’s decision to reduce, and then remove, gratis for BIC members; never reinstating a direct BIC link on mobile web; I could tell someone in corporate wanted this community gone. Without knowing any of the relevant numbers (KPI for starters) and corporate strategy, I can only knee-jerk rant about this. Sephora’s closing what I assume is its best meaningful customer engagement driver and customer insight generator. 🤦‍♀️In fact, BIC’s such a great feature, I think Sephora should email all Beauty Insider members directly about this closure. I mean we’re losing a feature after all, and it’s one that’s kept many of us engaged with Sephora. [ EDIT: I just saw email about this from around 11 AM CT; hadn’t checked my inbox before I posted. ]

 

And dang it, now I’ll be without a beauty community again. I haven’t posted on my Instagram account (robinfliesagain) since 2019 but gosh, I guess I’ll have to start using it now. Just when I’ve been trying to further reduce all my Meta usage… sigh. If anyone comes up with a BIC-like forum, please let me know! Hopefully I can stay in touch with at least some of y’all after the shutdown. 🖤

The log in issued is what did me in! I could not get it to work.

 

You bring up my biggest concern as well, I hope TeamBIC will find a home within another Sephora department or another brand/company. They are all rockstars!

@Mcakes  I feel weird saying “yay, I’m glad you could finally log in!” knowing BIC’s days are numbered. 🫠 Bittersweet is an understatement. At least we have Instagram to help keep in touch!

You've been so kind, knowledgeable and always ready to kindly share your insight @WinglessOne I can't believe this space will be going the way of the dinosaurs, other forums just don't do it for me.  But for the person or people who chose to shut this down, did they really not see how important and special this community was? How it directly effected product sales? Without you amazing people sharing and telling about products your loving, how will we be inspired to shop? Influencers and reviews lie and hype up without truth, it was the real talk here that led us to try and share.

That's just business stuff, the loss of the connections everyone made here really hits home the hardest but I don't think the people making decisions care about that.

@CynthieLu  Yeah, unfortunately the human aspect—the actual community part of all this—rarely (if ever) factors into cost-cutting decisions. And I keep assuming BIC’s a cost-cutting casualty, vs. other shutdown reasons like not having enough employees to keep BIC running (Sephora could easily solve that one), major problems with the forum software/platform BIC uses (Sephora could migrate BIC to a different platform, and this reason also ties back to cost cutting), running out of storage space for all our BIC photos/images (Sephora could compress images in some old versions of photo-heavy threads or retire those threads completely—pretty sure that’s happened before—and then put a size limit on photos we upload in the future; eh, this’d eventually become a problem for the Gallery anyway, which is staying), etc.

 

Anyway… I hope we cross paths again after BIC disappears! ❤️

@WinglessOne  I have really appreciated your presence here! I will definitely miss all the wisdom and knowledge you always bring to the community. I have always loved and looked forward to reading your "rambling" (as you like to call it😉)

I just started following you on Instagram. I'm 15roseleia on there. I removed my personal account a long time ago and just use my new one for posting my favorite gifs/memes/quotes, etc - but would love to stay connected with people from here if I can 😊

Thank you @Shosh85, and I should really thank everyone on BIC for letting me ramble so much. That’s one thing I can’t do much on Instagram unless I start posting videos of myself talking—which I don’t wanna do, because then people will have to listen to my voice rambling. 🫠 I mean, I can at least easily edit my written words before posting ‘em. 😅

@WinglessOne you have summarized my own feelings about this so cogently. I simply do not see the logic of this decision given how much this community must drive sales for Sephora. It makes no sense to me and I'm left to suspect petty things like corporate being frustrated with discussion of brands not sold through Sephora or as you said trimming the fat by scrapping jobs associated with B.I.C. I've only just gotten to know you a bit and was hoping to get to know you more. You are a true wordsmith and reading your product insights is delightful (I will forever associate your with the "just rolled in a BBQ pit" category of smoke in fragrances and honestly who the h else could break it down like that?!). I hope Sephora will feel the power of your words here as I did.

Thank you so much, @PDXXXX! Not knowing the reason(s) behind this shutdown is very frustrating. I realize Sephora has no obligation to share that info with us but c’mon man!

 

I wish we had more time to chat and share on BIC. This feels like being a little kid who meets another kid who just moved onto my street, and starting a friendship with her—only to learn my family’s moving away to a new state in a month. 🥺 I know I keep saying I hope a bunch (if not all) of us can regroup again in the future, but I mean it. ❤️

 

And now I gotta find the reviews I wrote in the fragrance threads… AND, I haven’t posted in your thread yet about the Scrubzz (why of course I bought a pack to try). Need more BIC time, Sephora!

@blackkitty2014  Haha, I can’t escape Facebook because that’s how I keep up with lots of family, plus friends who don’t have other social media accounts. If I could get everyone else off FB, I’d leave in a heartbeat. 😂

@WinglessOne  I never saw this coming at all. Very sad by the news. I followed you on instagram. It has been so nice getting to know you and learning all your wisdom. This space will be truly missed.
