Hey BIC, I hope youโve enjoyed November! ๐ค Mine started on an upswing riding the high of spooky season ๐ป, which led me to finally snagging a longtime love Iโve had on my wishlist . . . THEE MAKE UP FOREVER HD Skin Face Essentials Palette โ and let me tell you, she does not disappoint! ๐ While Iโve been keeping it lowkey post daylight savings, this new babe allows me to pull LEWKS at a momentโs notice and I cannot recommend it enough. RUN donโt walk if itโs not part of your collection yet! ๐จ
My other focus has been combatting the dreaded cold weather dryness from head to toe. Best believe I have all my creams, oils and serums on deck! My skincare routines have been extended, but Iโll be savoring this self-care indulgence as long as humanly possible. ๐
These are a few of my faves this month that have been helping me look and feel my best:
Passing the mic to you now Community! What picks are you treating yourself to this month? Donโt forget to use the โ#โ symbol to tag those favorites so we can make the most of our holiday shopping together ๐
No, not at all. When it arrived there was a sticker on the lid that said "Unscented", maybe in some places these are there is the option, but here we only carry the one kind of this. @CookieGirl1 ๐
@CynthieLu this moisturizer sounds amazing, between you and @CorgiMommy I am definitely adding it to my list for a future sale!
Would love your thoughts after you try it @caitbird
Thanks! @caitbird It's been a nice change. I had been using a jar of SDG but this is much lighter on my skin. ๐๐
Thank you @curlychiquita A great moisturizer is priceless imo thou thinking on it, those one was pretty affordable as far a body moisturizers go..๐
@CynthieLu i am so glad you like it. I know i hype this product up but it really is a game changer for me.
Thank YOU so much for recommending it @CorgiMommy ๐๐
Thatโs a great one amazing fave @CynthieLu I have that too I like how itโs unscented and itโs so smooth a little goes along way they last a long time and great for skin!
Yes, unscented was such a nice surprise @peculiarzmakeup it really blew me away. I enjoy either type but I hadn't expected that at all. ๐
@KhyleyBT Iโve also had that MUFE face palette on my Loves List forseeminglyever. I finally bought it yesterday because who am I to pass up a good discount? ๐ Glad you love yours, and that you get lots of use out of it!
I keep missing the Monthly Favorites threads lately, so thisโll be an October & November roundup:
Boy Smells Violet Ends Eau de Parfum 2.2 oz / 65 mL eau de parfum spray - a repeat monthly fave. Iโve described Violet Ends who knows how many times by now ๐ so I wonโt do that again here. But yeah, it might be my all-time favorite smoky violet incense fragrance. Itโs definitely my favorite Boy Smells fragrance, excluding their candles. EDIT - hereโs my Violet Ends description from an older Monthly Favorites thread:
Boy Smells Violet Ends - the first Boy Smells fragrance I ever bought. On me, itโs a peppery tobacco spiced leather + iris + violet, with some bergamot, a fruity sweetness (probably the rhubarb Boy Smells says is in there), a wood note (not cedar or sandalwood), some olibanum, and a hint of black tea.
It begins as your favorite sassy aunt or uncle, wearing their decades-old leather jacket and filling their tobacco pipe, handing you an open tin of loose leaf bergamot black tea and telling you to take a slice of the freshly baked rhubarb pie on their kitchen table beside a pepper grinder and a vase of violets and irises. It dries down to you and that same relative swapping โremember when" stories while lounging on an old leather sofa in front of a lit fireplace after sunset, warm pipe smoke in the air, more violets and irises on the coffee table, crickets chirping somewhere in the night.
If youโve ever smelled Boy Smells Hinoki Fantรดme Eau de Parfum 2.2 oz / 65 mL eau de parfum spray , I usually call that fragrance Violet Endsโ slightly tamer sister. (I do also love Hinoki Fantรดme, especially the candle.) Violet Ends has more bite, probably from its violet and pepper notes.
Chanel Rouge Allure Liquid Velvet shade 236 Ensorcelante - Iโve had it just 10-15 days and Iโm already in love with it. Wearable as a one-coat tint or a two-coat full deep purple. Dries down to a demi-matte finish thatโs not really transfer-proof, and Iโm fine with that. Itโs lightweight and very comfy over my usual base coat of Aquaphor Ointment. This is my first Liquid Velvet and I think I need more of โem in my lipstick hoard. Here are my lip swatch photos:
Lisa Eldridge Rouge Experience Refillable Lipstick shade Audrey - a refillable and fully recyclable lipstick. This coral pink shade was a gamble for me, but I wound up loving it. The formula is fantastic: fragrance-free, truly lightweight, moisturizing/non-drying, and medium opaque coverage thatโs buildable to full opacity. Iโm waiting for an unavailable shade to come in stock so I can buy it as a refill. Might as well share my lip swatch photo of this one, too:
Lisa Eldridge Liquid Silk Liquid Eyeshadow shade Thalia - the matte version of Lisaโs shimmer liquid shadows. Applies smoothly with a brush or finger, blends out easily (though I do need to work quickly), and sets to a kinda tacky texture that can hold other shadows in place. Iโve used this rosewood shade as a full lid shadow and a base for other shadows.
NARS Total Seduction Eyeshadow Stick shade Fated - a beautiful aubergine shade that needs a primer of some sort, otherwise it creases/transfers a lot. Iโve frequently paired it with a full lid of the LEโs Thalia for a quick and easy smoky purple eye that stays put. I find these updated NARS shadow sticks are well pigmented and very easy to work withโalmost too blendableโcompared to the brandโs old shadow sticks.
Note: I couldโve also included several palettes and single shadows as monthly faves this time around. But when I really thought about what Iโve used most often on my eyes the last couple months, I drastically narrowed the list. Since September, Iโve used the above liquid and stick shadows with various palettes, eyeliners, and single shadows.
Sonia G. Summer Koi Brush Set - Iโve near-exclusively used these four goat hair eyeshadow brushes for 2 months now. Aside from looking beautiful (and having a maki-e design thatโs symbolically special to me), each brush performs amazingly well. I frequently use one of โem to blend undereye concealer. The other three (all four, really) have gotten to know my eyelids very well. These are true workhorses, even by Sonia G. standardsโand that says a lot, since many of her brushes are daily task managers.
Phytosurgence Skin Spark Blush Balms - Ignite is the shade Iโve used most often, so I wonโt include โem all in my photo. A little goes a very long way, but I can blend my way out of accidental overapplication. Like my other Phytosurgence blush shades, Ignite has a natural skin finish and lasts all day. My favorite thing about these blushes might be the subtle shade differences: my cheeks are partly hyperpigmented, so I like to use a couple of these blush shades as base color adjusters and use another blush (from this or another brand) on top. I do also wear these blushes solo. Itโll be fun to see how long it takes me to empty a jar.
SEPHORA COLLECTION Essential Brush - 05 Highlighter - what I often use to apply Phytosurgence blushes. I LOVE the SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Blush Brush #99 for cream blush, but itโs too big to dip into these little jars. The 05 Highlighter is small enough for the job, yet just large enough to stamp + buff on my cheeks. Itโs a flat round brush (my favorite shape of cheek brush) that has some splay without being too floppyโperfect for the way I like to apply cream blush in general. I bought a second one during the Holiday Savings Event.
And how about a few skincare faves?
When Abib discontinued their Heartleaf Stone bar cleanser, I scrambled to find a replacement so I wouldnโt have to worry about nursing the heck outta my stockpiled bars. I found 2 winners this fall:
Abib Heartleaf Foam Acne Foam Cleanser - I always used the Heartleaf Stone instead of this cream cleanser because the latter contains wintergreen extract. Mint extracts usually tick my facial skin off. But so far, this cleanserโs played very nice with my skin, hooray! Itโs a very thick cream and I need just a very small amount to wash my face and neck. It lathers up and rinses without leaving my skin feeling tight/โsqueaky cleanโ or filmy. Bonus points for having no fragrance.
La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Gel Cleanser - this one does have fragrance, but itโs a very subtle scent that hasnโt sent my skin into tantrum mode. I initially just wanted to test LRPโs marketing claims. I didnโt expect this gel cleanser to be so non-drying, but here it is on my monthly faves list. ๐
It even performs much better for me than LRPโs Lipikar cleanser. I happily alternate between this and the above Abib cleanser.
COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster - not a cleanser but definitely a favorite, especially now that fall weatherโs rolled in. This serumโs kinda like a slightly moisturizing/emollient counterpart of The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum, one of my skinโs longtime best friends (tangent: I still call it โBuffetโ). It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and plushly soft. When temps drop below 20ยบF, my skin will appreciate this serum even more.
Iโve been curious about the CosRx mist and now I definitely want to try it @WinglessOne!
@faeriegirl Oh, that COSRX productโs a serum, not a mist: the peptide booster bottle has a pump, not a spray nozzle. They do make one of my reactive skinโs favorite mists though (the Centella Water Toner). If you try the peptide serum, I hope you like it!
LOVEEE this faves catch up @WinglessOne ๐ I'll be coming back to it for inspo for weeks to come! Also happy to influence your snag of the MUFE palette, I know you'll love it too. I wanna check out that Boy Smells EDP ๐ I haven't tried any of their fragrances yet but used to launch a bunch of them back when I worked on product production. Thank you for sharing all the goodies, tips and tricks always ๐
Thank you @KhyleyBT! I hope you like Violet Ends if/when you get your nose on it. Thanks for helping to bring one of my favorite fragrances (and scented candle makers) to Sephora!
@WinglessOne awesome faves! I always love reading your thoughts about everything, so interesting and insightful! It made me happy to see some things from your previous hauls posts made it into this favorites roundup, like your gorgeous Sonia G brushes and that *amazing* purple Chanel lippie! Glad you have found so many favorites that you are enjoying!
Thank you @caitbird! Now that I think about it, Violet Ends is the only thing in this group thatโs not a 2024 purchase. Definitely makes me feel better about any 2024 duds. ๐
Amazing faves I especially love the Chanel purple lippie on you! The brush set sounds fantastic and love the incorporation of skin care always nice to hear your thoughts on these I also love the lip swatches! @WinglessOne
Thanks @peculiarzmakeup! That Chanel lipstickโs definitely going on my Best of 2024 list.
Amazing roundup @WinglessOne, But it did get me thinking. I wonder why Buffet from Ordinary changed it's name, I still can't help but call it by it's old name either. ๐ Old habits and all lol.
Okay thou, your Sonia G Koi set sounds auhmazing. ๐คฉ
Thanks @CynthieLu ! I remember The Ordinary saying they wanted Buffetโs name to follow the standard of their other serums: a name that describes whatโs in the product. But that serum contains so much good stuff in addition to peptides and hyaluronic acid, they shouldโve just stuck with โBuffetโ or I dunno, โBuffet: Multi-Peptide + HA Serumโโthatโd be a better descriptor in my opinion but hey, Iโm not a TO/Deciem employee or product owner so what do I know. It kinda reminds me of how no Chicagoan calls the Sears Tower โWillis Towerโ (its official name since 2009). ๐
