Beauty Insider Community Feedback

Hello beautiful Beauty Insider Community members!

We’re starting this thread for you guys to report any issues and weird things that you are seeing or ask any questions. We have a number of issues logged that we are already working on a fix for, so this is a work in process.

Some things to note as you are reporting issues:

  • If you are looking for a thread and can’t find it, please post here. We’ll need to manually move some threads that got lost in the migration to their correct groups.
  • If you are reporting a bug please be specific about the issue you're seeing, how you got there (“I clicked here and it did *this*”), the device you're using and which browser you're in.

Some tips:

  • If you are looking for a thread that you commented on in the old community, go to the front page of conversations and click the “My Posts” tab. This is where you will find all of your conversations activity, including your heart count.

It’s good to see you all and thanks for being patient!

Whenever reporting a bug we need as much info as possible or our tech team cannot reproduce the issue and verify it's actually occurring. If they can't see the issue they cannot fix it. You cannot overshare details, test on too many devices or share too many screenshots... The more detail the better!

What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

similarly formatted boards allow posters this simple option. Is there a logical rationale behind Sephora's choice of forcing posters to participate in this beureaucratic jump through-hoops process involving the necessity of having to approach an 'authoritative' Mod with what may not be but certainly feels on some WHACKED-out level like a "Mother-May-I" dynamic with a power-play undercurrent? "I will hereby grant your wish to delete your post, but only I retain the ability, right, and means to execute such action." Doesn't make sense. Please enlighten.

Intro. to post AWOL/MIA::

What is the basis for not allowing us to edit/delete our own posts? It's not as if the technology doesn't exist, and it doesn't infringe on anyone ELSES right to free speech; we should have the right to the command of our own. Usually it's just to edit--adding more specific info re. a product for better or worse after time has passed; sometimes we accidentally post on a completely non-relevant board, etc.

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

For better or worse, this particular forum is a very highly-walled garden... there are a lot of missing features and affordances, but there are also far fewer trolls, spammers, and general negative vibes (Play and CS groups aside 🙄) than most places. I've come to consider it a cost of doing business, so to speak.

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

Thanks for responding, fieldsofclover! I *kinda sorta* inferred that about "the wall," only I perceive the wall as a majestic and theatrical curtain a la the Wizard of Oz, excluding, OF COURSE, all literary  political allusions implying that the weak are power-hungry, and the powerful, corrupt.

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

@Anngelique Ah, I mean it in the walled-garden sense. I can't post any links here for you to read (a convenient illustration of this very structure) but if you do a web search for "internet walled garden" you'll find plenty of discussion of the pros and cons.

Like most other tools, I don't think there's anything inherently good or bad about this, but I do find BIC to be a mostly positive example. Sometimes it's annoying and inconvenient (I would spend an unhealthy amount of BI points for the ability to move off-topic threads into relevant groups, for one) but I'm willing to put up with those things because I'm still getting enough value for my time.

More visibly active moderation comes with other baggage anyway, so I am glad the community team here is taking it slow even while some of their longer-term plans are becoming more apparent.

I appreciate your taking the time to 'tell it like it is'--in an adroitful if not strategically tactful manner. Well-played.

@Anngelique Don't hate the player, hate the game, right? 🤷

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

Hi @Anngelique, the inability to edit or delete may be a glitch or temporary.  I edit posts all the time. I did it this afternoon when I forgot to tag someone, in fact.  I see right now it's not an option, however.  Maybe site maintenance(?)

Am I crazy @fieldsofclover?  It's usually an available option, right?

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

@RachFace2921: Please share with us, step-by-step, the process you use to edit and/or delete posts.

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

@RachFace2921 I think you can (used to be??) only able to delete a post by yourself if no one else had responded yet.

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

I've actually never deleted a post, so I'm not 100% sure of that was an option or not.  What you describe @skcfan seems logical though.

As for editing @Anngelique, if you click the three dots in the bottom right of your post, 'edit post' is usually an available option in the pop up menu.  I don't see it now, but used the feature earlier today.  It may just be temporary.  I've seen it disappear and reappear before.

I just tried again, and was able to edit this sentence into my reply 😃

Re: What is the basis for not allowing us the freedom to edit and/or delete our own posts? Obviously the technology exists; most sites with++

@Anngelique Both @RachFace2921 and @skcfan are correct. You can find the option to edit/delete by clicking on the three little dots in the bottom right corner of your posts. See screenshot below. Delete option is only available if no one has replied yet (I suspect this is a tech limitation on this platform...the board doesn’t know what to do with replies if the parent post is deleted so it just doesn’t let you). You can edit your posts anytime regardless whether others have replied. If you’re not seeing the options, maybe the site signed you out? I often have to refresh or re-sign in to get all my member options.

Yep.

Spoiler

When viewing someone else's posts, I see:Screenshot_20180411-195753.png

When I view the same menu on one of mine, I also have an edit option at the top.Screenshot_20180411-195820.png

If no one else has responded there's also been a delete-post option too. The only times I've seen posts with responses disappear were times where they were probably mod-deleted anyway.

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

@KatieBT

I am still having problems with sign-on and Authentification notices on Desktop and Chrome.

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

Same here, @KatieBT.  It worked for like a day, then reverted back to difficulty signing in/staying signed in for BIC 😞

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

Is anyone else having problems with sign-on again? I’ve been fine for days, but now it’s started again. But now it’s even worse bc it’s not pulling up my saved password and username. I have to log out, then log in by typing all info in every time.

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

Having good luck using the BIC on mobile / chrome today @KatieBT.  Seems like the recent sign in issues are fixed. Thank you!

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

@KatieBT Today is the first day in a week when I've been able to sign in and post. I, too, kept getting red messages about authentication failure on my iPhone, iPad, and desktop. I honestly have no idea why I can now sign in and post again since I didn't do anything differently on my iPhone or iPad. I haven't tried signing in from my desktop yet, but I'm happy this is working for me now!

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

I dont want to jinx my luck but i think Chrome is working correctly for me today on my laptop.  The authentication issue is gone.  I will report back on mobile/ipad later.  Thx @KatieBT and IT team.

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

Sorry to add to your troubles but I guess more more info the better. I had to play around with signing in earlier, but once I did, when I tried to like a post it gave me an authentication error. I was still signed in but I couldn't post or like anything. Seems okay now, but I'll try to take a video if it happens again.

Re: Beauty Insider Community Feedback

Hey @Aaliaa thanks for the feedback!

If you see this error again please take a screenshot and let us know which browser you're using as well as the device you're on while experiencing the issue. Brownie points if you can test on other browsers and report back 🙂
