Spam on BIC

As you have likely noticed, the Community has been inundated with an exceedingly high volume of spam posts. We are aware of this issue and working hard behind the scenes to fix this. We know these posts can truly impact your experience here, and we appreciate everyone who has sent our team messages on this issue. Our goal is to maintain this safe space where you can all share and read about all things beauty – we’re so sorry this spam is getting in the way of that!

Please know that this is a huge priority for us and we are working to prevent this from happening in the future. We will share updates as soon as we have them. In the meantime, please know that our team and tech partners are on it!

The simple solution is that all new posters must have their posts approved by the mods until they have hit a certain number of days AND pots.  So a minimum of a week of posting and a minimum of 10 approved posts before they can post freely.

@flamingolegs this really seems like the best solution - although it would create more work for the mods which I could see being hard, on the other hand no idea how much work it's taking to get rid of the spam. Even like 2-3 approved posts would probably stop most of this

I dont even like coming here anymore. In any company I've worked for, ALL in the beauty industey, we've had to deal with tech issues. Something similar to this at one employer. Literally within 24-48 hours IT has a resolution. A company as large as Sephora, with the means ($) doesn't have an IT department that can combat this? Or it just isnt a priority? I've logged on here every single day for nearly 3 years. It's not what it was, a place to unwind - it just causes more stress.

Agreed, @GG84. I’ve been super bummed about logging in since the spam started. It’s definit made me turn from a semi-active participant to just a lurker who hearts posts.

I've been seeing spam posts about my alma mater today, and everytime I scroll by, I think, "Been there, done that, and never moving back to the freezing Midwest."

@TeamBIC  Not only with this spam that we got lately, we have been getting supplement spams for months already and they still pop up everyday.  What has been really done so far?  I really do not see there is a difference as they still occur everyday ;(

Why are new accounts still permitted to post unchecked? 63 posts in *less than 20 minutes* should not be allowed. Having admined on boards in the past, there were super easy controls to implement for new posters, either individually or site-wide. Is this not a thing for Lithium? It really really really really really really really really should be...

ETA: overnight, 2 other accounts got up to 547 posts (tab58329) and 287 posts (hyv03325). Argggggggggggggggh

OMG this is insane!!! I saw where people mentioned maybe shutting down new accounts on BIC for a while - I think that may be a good idea.

They're baaaaaaack! And now they're advertising universities in Italy? Anyone else feel like they won't be done till they hit all the countries and all the languages?!

@MissPuff The "good" news is they stick to just a couple of languages.  The bad news is they are cycling through every university known to man.  Ivy leagues, state schools, Italian schools... all the schools!

There should be a “report as spam” option that completely removes a post once a certain amount of people have reported it as spam. The post would then be moved to a private feed where the moderators would confirm whether or not it’s spam
