Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

For as long as I can remember, I've had these tiny bumps that gather around the inner corner of my eye and along my dark circles. I really, really hate them! They kind of look like chicken skin, but they don't really feel bumpy or anything. I've seen pictures of milia, and that is definitely not what I have. These little bumps don't ever go away and they never move. Some people say that they've started to notice this chicken skin under their eyes as they aged, but I'm a Sophomore and I've had this problem my whole life! I've done a little research, and so far all of the fixes have been really complicated and confusing. Please give me a solution! I like to take good care of my skin, but I'd much rather just buy a lotion or something than see a dermatologist. Thanks for all your help!

Have you found  ccure by any chance still looking for answers

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I have had these since a sun poisoning incident that included facial scarring at 8 years old. I also have keratosis pilaris on my legs. I have only been trying to diagnose my under eye for the last couple years. I too thought it was keratin. Then I thought it was sebaceous hyperplasia. I realized it couldn’t be because we lack oil glands under our eyes. This is why it also can’t be Fordyce. Aside from the fact these spots only show up on the lips, inside the mouth, or the genitals, they also are a result of oil build up.

The previous two answers are correct. IT IS SYRINGOMA. They present in many sizes, shapes, and sizes but the under eye and eyelid are the placement. They are benign tumors. I really think we need to get together with the medical community because they classify it as very rare and having an association with Down’s and Diabetes. My think is the belief that it is very rare, therefore not studied well, causes it to be misdiagnosed.

As for treatment, I just started using Dr. Dennis Gross’s extra strength daily peel and I swear in two days it’s almost gone under one eye. After the peel I was just rubbing, then very lightly scraping and it was coming off in small flakes. If you’re curious I will update in a few days.

I literally just created a Sephora account to reply to this post 6 years later, to tell you it's syringomas!!!

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

Thank you for posting this.  I have this as well.  No doctor has been willing to do anything to treat this for me. Most doctors would look and say...hmmm...maybe that's milia? Or they would say it is cholesterol. Have you had any suggestions on what to do?

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I think these are fordyce spots. The occur in the lips, under the eye and also around other body parts.

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I have a few around my lips as well. When I see my Dermotologist about this I will bring it up.

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

They are indeed fordyce spots and I have them as well in my tear troughs. I thought they’d be a permanent thing but mine are finally going away. I use a really good hydrating and moisturizing undereye cream then use Noni undereye oil just on the trough area and then topnit with Laneige Undereye mask. I’ve been doing this for about a week bow and my fordyce spots are barely noticeable. I’m going to continue my eye routine as long as it takes to make them go away as much as possible and then see the type of maintenance I can do afterward. They are more noticeable the drier the skin is there and lots of moisture will make them retreat big time. I recommend Tarte’s Maracuja brightening eye cream, then add Noni oil on top and finally top everything with Laneige. Give it a couple weeks before you judge. Mine were awful, quite severe actually, so if this can help mine almost disappear after just a week, it can help anyone’s 🙂

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I feel like I want to cry right now because of the joy your suggestions have brought me!!! I have been obsessing over this issue. I'm going to be 35 but my under-eyes make me look 45!!! I cannot wait to try this regiment. Thank you thank you.

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

Did you experience a reduction of these spots afterall? I started to get lazy about my under-eye care and they came back. I’m going to return to the same routine as before because I know it works. As soon as my concealer starts to look “gummy” under my eyes, I know I’ve let it go too long. Don’t overdo it with the oil, just enough to layer on top in the troughs only. 🙂

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

They're probably visible oil glands.  I use OccuSoft eyelid cleansing pads and foaming cleanser to gently physically exfoliate and Skinfood's Pineapple Peeling Gel for chemical exfoliation.

Skincare products that help:

DIY Toner - Blend of Chamomile / ACV / Tea Tree Oil

Skinfood Premium Lettuce & Cucumber (Watery Toner & Watery Emulsion)

Ladykin Broccoli Essence Toner

Mizon Snail Repair Intensive Ampule

TonyMoly It's Skin Sheet Mask - Skin Soothing Tea Tree - I save the leftover essence in a dropper bottle and use on any irritated spots. Just don't store too long!

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

These bumps can sometimes be caused by using an undereye creme thats too heavy for your skin type. Try using a gel instead! -Kendal

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I have that too! I was told it's hereditary. What works for me is applying a good moisturizer, and then hyaluronic acid topical serum on top. It creates like a thin layer above the skin that makes it appear smooth and not like bumpy chicken skin. If you want to skip the hyaluronic acid you can use a pore minimizer (lotion or primer) instead to balance out the texture, and then apply makeup as normal.

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I have the same exact thing! It bothers me when researching about it since it always says it’s milia when it’s not!

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

ME TOOO! I'm also a sophomore with this issue and I can't find anything on what it is. But I am happy to know that I'm not the only one. Thanks!

Re: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I have the same problem and I got a sample of the Bobbi Brown eye cream. The small bumps are going away slowly but surely.

RE: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

I have those, too, and they’re called hidrocystoma. Retinol and electrolysis are the only things that seem to help at all. My husband is a doc and got me in with an awesome derm/path specialist, and that’s what he diagnosed. It’s genetic 😰

Re: RE: Under Eye Bumps, NOT milia

Hi there,

I was excited to see your response because I suffer from this “chicken skin” under the eye as well, how I looked up hidrocystoma and it doesn’t really look like what’s described. Hidrocystoma looks more like a mole or wart rather than many tiny bumps under the skin.

Really interested to hear anyone else’s experience with it and getting rid of it.

Thanks!
