Sunscreen

Hello! I am looking for sunscreen recommendations. My dermatologist recommended I find a strong UV-A blocking sunscreen like La Roche-Posay for a possible sun sensitivity (Polymorphous light eruption-PMLE). Does anybody have any recommendations other than La Roche-Posay? Thank you!

Re: Sunscreen

Cover FX clear sunscreen, works great under makeup too. Leaves no cast or residue and works for dry and oil skin. I'm on my 4th bottle.

Re: Sunscreen

Hi @clzyj0523, I think I know the sunscreen you're referring to-- the La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 one. If what you primarily need is super strong UVA protection (and you live in the US-- I don't know what's available in Canada), that would probably be your best bet. You might also look into some of the Shiseido sunscreens available like Wetforce. The problem with American sunblocks is that we don't have access to the really good UVA filters that are available in Asia and Europe. These sunscreens make use of UVA filters like tinosorb and mexoryl that for complicated and somewhat strange reasons, the FDA does not really allow here at this time (despite them being more stable and less irritating then the chemical blocks we do have access to). We've seen mexoryl a little bit in La Roche Posay's American sunscreens but the only one I'm finding it in now is the SPF 15 version. So you're probably best off going with the La Roche Posay sunscreen you had in mind, though if that doesn't work you could look into trying to order some Asian/Euro sunscreens. The Youtuber Gothamista recently did a video on her favorite suncreens that might give you some ideas. Hope that helps.

Hi @clzyj0523

What type of sunscreen are you looking for? If we have a better idea of what you like or dislike, we may be better able to suggest some options.

La Roche Posay is actually my favourite one to use, so it would have been my top pick!
