Skincare routine

Friends! Help! I desperately need to step up my skin care routine. I need any advise or recommendations for serums, oils, peels, spf under makeup help. I have combo, sensitive, acne prone skin. I would like to brighten, minimize pores, smooth my face so is not textured, fine lines and wrinkles as well. I have been looking at The Ordinary products—not going to lie, it’s very overwhelming! I’ve heard to add one product at a time which is great, but where do I start? Currently I use PURPOSE fave cleanser, micellar to remove makeup, an astringent toner and then a basic dove moisturizer or hydrating. From time to time I also have to use differin gel for problem areas. I am new to this app and I search through the conversations search bar for this group-but I believe I am doing something wrong to get to the thread I need....

I definitely agree with @Liss89 that Caroline Hirons is absolutely brilliant. I love her YouTube videos and blogposts both. As for The Ordinary, I hope it works out great for you; I personally find it all too sticky and it breaks my out. As you already mentioned, it may be best to only buy one or two items and test them first before you jump in with both feet - even though it’s cheap it’s still costs something. It definitely sounds like you would benefit from something that exfoliates.

Thank you for responding! 🙂

Re: Skincare routine

The ordinary is a great brand with really solid products but definitely overwhelming if you’re a beginner! What I like most about the besides the price is that because the serums just have one or two active ingredients it’s really easy to narrow down the ingredients that work for you or don’t. You can go to their website and look at sample regimens and they also have a list that tells you which products shouldn’t be used together which is very helpful. https://theordinary.com/regimenguide It took me a really long time to understand skincare well enough to pick out products from them!

Caroline Hirons has a trustworthy blog and YouTube channel that is a great resource for learning about skincare. I read a lot of her “cheat sheets” and they really helped my general understanding of what I should put on my skin and when! https://www.carolinehirons.com/page-category/cheat-sheets

Recommendation-wise I really like the ordinary Niacinamide and salicylic acid serums for keeping my skin clear, the squalane oil for hydration, and the aha + bha peeling solution once a week for texture and brightness. Most sunscreens break me out but I have found that the UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 by Elta MD doesn’t. I have a similar skin type to yours, so I hope this helps!

RE: Re: Skincare routine

Thank you so much for you help!!! The ones you mentioned are the ones I have been looking into 🙂 I’ll update you once I add a few!

RE: Skincare routine

Maybe try The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. It brightens, safe for sensitive skin, & is overall one of my favorite ingredients! (I have combo skin too)
