Skincare Routine of the Day

This is a place to share your skincare routine of the day!  Whether it be daytime routine or nighttime routine, I know you have one.  From simple to complex, expensive to inexpensive products: show and tell! If you are anything like me, your skincare routine changes daily. Skincare isn't as showy as makeup, but it is the quiet work horse of our daily lives. 20200118_005115.jpg

You might want to include with your post: your skin type, skin concerns (& the weather where you are).

⭐ Sometimes if all you can do is your skincare, that is enough.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@heartsmyface is that the pineapple serum in the middle? I had been curious about that. What's the product name again? How do you like it.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@sprocketta @It’s the Glow Recipe Pineapple Bright Serum.  It smells like overripe pineapple but the scent dissipates after a few moments.  This is my third bottle.  I love it.  I want to believe it’s better than other vitamin C serums but I’m not sure if it’s because I just love the scent and bottle so much.  It’s a pleasure to apply regardless.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@heartsmyface  Great to hear the Wander products were good!! I’ve been waiting to hear how they work!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@ather  My dry skin is pleased by them.  They’re nothing revolutionary but they’re good and leave your skin feeling comfortable.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@heartsmyface  That’s good to hear!! Has it been very dry where you are?? We are expecting 5-10 cm of snow 😱 I think it was 20 cm when I checked Friday but it’s changed.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

Such a pretty line up! So glad you're liking the Wander Beauty kit, @heartsmyface!! The smell of the spray is odd? I got one in a kit and had to stop using because it was like stale flowers? Maybe I had a bad one, but I'd be curious to hear a bit more about the smell. I've come around on the oil, so nice to hear it is working so well for you too!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@haleyvvvv I feel like it smells specifically like dried roses. Yeah they definitely infused the spray with dried rose petals.  It’s not the worst scent but I do like rose waters that smell as though they’ve been made with fresh petals.  I’ll still enjoy it.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

Glad you're enjoying it, @heartsmyface!!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

with all the quiet, inside, non-shopping time, I've been going through my stuff and tried a bunch of new things the other day!  (in addition to my go-to's; PHILOSOPHY - The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash and dermae radiance toner)

newbies:

kiehl's cannabis cleanser

too cool for school mastic serum, cream and balm

crepe erase eye cream

herbivore emerald cbd oil

skin was so smooth, and I noticed w/the too cool products, that they didn't pill like usual when I put a bunch of stuff on (yay!)...I wonder if that's cuz they were in the same line?

Skin type, concerns, weather:
Spoiler
My mostly-dry combo skin is trying to deal with Chicago’s springtime transitional weather mood swings. My oily zone (just on and around my nose) has been dehydrated for a couple weeks, hence the repeated flaking there—so I’m focused on hydration boosts in that zone, plus occlusive moisturization in the flaky areas.
Yesterday I had to go out and forage for food and supplies. I hadn’t slept in 24 hours, which made for a more interesting social-distancing shopping experience. Smiley Very Happy Here’s yesterday morning’s routine.

Lip care: My routine started with Sephora Dragonfruit Lip Scrub, which I washed off in the shower. Later, I applied Glossier Bubblewrap as a lip essence. At the end of this routine, I applied Aquaphor Ointment.

Wash: Paula’s Choice Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser.

Tone/essence: Frudia Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Toner. I pressed 2 layers into my dehydrated oily area, with a thin layer of plain ol’ water pressed in between them.

Spot treatment: Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Gel, used only on acne spots.

Serums: NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate all around my orbital bone. Farmacy Very Cherry Bright everywhere but my lids and brow bones. Then I used YTTP Adaptogen Mist as a hydrating/moisturizing serum.

Moisturizer: Herbivore Emerald CBD Oil, topped with YTTP Superfood moisturizer. Then I applied a thin layer of Aquaphor Ointment to the dehydrated patches of my oily zone, to act as an occlusive moisturizer.

Sunscreen: Replenix Sheer Physical Sunscreen Cream SPF 50+, a new-to-me sunscreen. Unfortunately it left a white cast on my face, so I had to apply tinted moisturizer and powder foundation to fully cover it up. Very much not the sort of thing I wanted to do while operating on zero sleep. 😡 This will be a body-only sunscreen from now on.
When I returned home, I had to stay awake long enough to receive a delivery. I decided to get all that makeup off my face while I waited, so I wouldn’t fall asleep in it.

Details:

Makeup removal: Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water Cloths. I figured I might as well keep using this opened pack of 10 wipes, plus I wanted to put them to the “full base makeup” test. They passed!

Moisturizer: The Inkey List Multi-Biotic Moisturizer. This was my first time using it, and it worked perfectly for this super abbreviated routine. It’s a lightweight cream that gave my face just the right amount of moisturization. It has a very slightly sour smell, but that disappears 5 seconds into application.

Lip care: Fresh Sugar Blood Orange Hydrating Balm. I just got this last week. It smells SOOOOO good. I wish Fresh sold a candle version of this balm. It also tastes pretty good—not quite like a blood orange, but certainly not yucky. Most importantly, it does keep my lips moisturized.
After that midday wipe-down and my delivery arrival, I laid down for a nap—which turned into a full 6 hour sleep session. 😩 I woke up and then spent the next few hours dozing off and re-waking up every 30-60 minutes. I finally left bed around 1 AM because I remembered “it’s retinol night!” Well, also because I was very hungry: all I’d eaten that day was half a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Smiley Very Happy

Tone/essence: e.l.f. Hydrating Water Essence.

Lip care: Aquaphor, topped at the end of this routine with Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

Spot treatment: Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting BHA 9. This new-to-me product is a 9% salicylic acid spot treatment. I’ve been using it only on acne spots at night and man, this stuff gets the job done.

Serums: The Inkey List Retinol. NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate all around my orbital bone.

Mask: Holika Holika Watermelon Mask Sheet, for some pampering hydration and moisturization.

Moisturizer: YTTP Superfood Moisturizer.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

Boo for not sleeping. Koh Gen Do wipes for the win!  They are my fave. @WinglessOne

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@l8totheparty  Getting myself back on a “normal” sleep schedule (haha, normal for me anyway) has been a crazy struggle. Hopefully I’ll get to bed and actually fall asleep tonight before 6 AM. I’m worried my brain will forever associate sunrise with sleep mode.

And seriously, those KGD wipes are fantastic. My wallet still wishes I’d never tried them, but I’m glad I stocked up on them during KGD’s last sale. Now it’s just a question of when I can travel again, so I can put them to good use!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@WinglessOne  oh no, I go through periods like that. My sleep rhythm slowly goes off and I find myself night owling once every two months.  It naturally corrects itself but it’s this permanent sleep disturbance I have.  if it’s stress related, maybe try some calming music.  I know YouTube has some great tracks.  Also the Calm ap is very good.  I have yet to hear an entire story cause they always put me to sleep.

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@heartsmyface  Heh, I’m a lifelong insomniac: I’ve been a night owl since childhood. It’s why my internal sleep clock is set to 4-6 hours of sleep a night, where “night” is normally the early morning hours (2-4 AM through 6-8 AM). And I go through 2-3 day periods of sleeplessness or just 1-2 hours of sleep; that’s something I’ve cycled through since my late teens, though it gets worse (happens more frequently, and sometimes for more days at a time) depending on my stress level and GAD activity.

But now my usual 4-6 hours have abnormally shifted to 7-8 AM through 1-2 PM and it’s driving me nuts. It’s definitely stress and anxiety related, but also routine related: my former employer and I parted ways last year, so I’ve had no structured schedule to hold myself to. This self-quarantining business isn’t helping at all. I think I need to force myself back on an activity schedule of some sort. That’ll be easier once I can safely leave home daily.

Music is a good idea that, unfortunately, rarely works as a sleep aid for me. Music is a big part of my life, so it usually keeps me awake. Reading also has the opposite effect on me for similar reasons. I have very sensitive hearing, so listening to people talk sometimes keeps me awake—usually if I notice a specific speech characteristic they have (maybe they’re very nasally while pronouncing certain vowels, or they make pronounced breathing sounds as they speak, or they do lots of tongue clicking as they speak, etc.) and my brain fixates on it. Noise/sound machines/apps sometimes work, depending on the mix of sounds—and the same sound doesn’t consistently work on me. I won’t take Rx sleep meds; I had a very bad experience with one years ago. OTC meds/supplements are very hit or miss for me. I’m quite the challenge when it comes to breaking insomnia, as my doc would say. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

Omg I can imagine to dent to the wallet!  Good luck on getting back to a better sleep schedule.  😊 @WinglessOne

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@WinglessOne  I’m sorry you haven’t been able to sleep much. Hopefully lots of sleep will come your way soon!! How did you make out getting supplies? I love the detail in your routine. It’s so helpful. Did you participate in the singing in Chicago? I saw it on the news and it made me smile!!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@ather  I didn’t take part in the singalong, but I heard some of it! That was pretty awesome.

My foraging adventure got me ice cream (priorities, man Smiley Very Happy), soy milk (I’m so glad it’s back in stock!), cereal, 1 of the last 2 bags of frozen Cali-blend veggies (I hate being a shelf clearer, so I left a bag behind for someone else in need), baby wipes, Excedrin, Q-tips, my favorite leave-in conditioner, peanut butter, RX Bars (protip: spread peanut butter on certain RX Bar flavors), and a few other things I’m sure I’m forgetting right now. Luckily I’m not out of toilet paper yet, because that’s still missing from shelves. My freezer’s always stocked with fish, poultry, and fake meat (I love Gardein Beefless Ground), and I keep my pantry full of noodles, rice, steel cut oats, grits, and tortilla chips, so I’m good there. I really miss having fresh veggies and fruit, though. I wish I had my own garden (and that temps were garden favorable) right about now. I hope you’re doing well and not suffering too badly from cabin fever!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@WinglessOne  Aww that’s awesome you heard it!!!

i agree ice cream is a priority! Sadly there was none when I went shopping today. Still no toilet paper no hand sanitizer or Lysol wipes. Oh well I have antibacterial hand soap!!! I love that you didn’t take the last bag. I’ve been still maintaining my weekly grocery shopping. I need to because my little man drinks milk so it runs out every week! At the store today they had signs saying not to hoard because trucks come in every day. But there was no rice or pasta still. Oh well if all the food disappeared I have flour and yeast so I can make bread!!! I’ve never had an RX bar before I may have to find some. I wonder if it would taste good with the cookie butter on top?

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@ather  Heh, the real question is, what doesn’t taste better with cookie butter on top? That’s something I’m still out of, unfortunately. I didn’t go to Trader Joe’s during my last foraging run, but I plan to this week. I need my cookie butter! Smiley Very Happy Sure, I could order it online, but I feel weird about doing that when there’s a TJ’s within walking distance. I just hope they’re not OOS.

If you run out of antibacterial hand soap, remember than anything containing sulfates works perfectly fine for washing hands. Smiley Wink That includes shampoos and body washes that contain sulfates. I’m sure some non-sulfate things also work well. Shampoo is also good for cleaning makeup brushes (especially synthetic) and sponges. It might just take extra water rinsing to get all the suds out of the bristles.

And hooray for homemade bread!

Re: Skincare Routine of the Day

@WinglessOne  I was lucky enough to get a sweet package from @itsfi  and it included some cookie butter. I have just been eating it out of the jar with a spoon and my son has decided he loves it too. We are sanitary tho we use a new spoon every dip.
