Should I use toner?

Hi everyone,

I have a set up routine basically in which at night I wash my face (w/ Clarisonic, not sure if it matters), then sometimes put on a face mask and once I rinse it off I put on a moisturizer. I've heard that using a toner helps and it's pretty much the last time in the routine. Is this true? I wanted to see what you guys thought since I don't wanna over do it.

Thanks! 🙂

I have combination oily skin with acne scars, blackheads and large pores around my nose. Since I started using toner regularly, I have seen a marked difference. Now, the products I use afterwards go on better. But I don't regularly use toners which are formulated to control oil as they can dry out the skin. For regular use, I prefer the more mildly formulated toners which help balance the ph.

there are 2 ways to use toner: 1) use it right after you wash your face. ( in your situation, right before mask ) so that your face is ph balanced and easier for the skin to absorb the essence from the mask and all the steps afterwards 2) toner as layering. I heard a lot of good results coming from layering . but i would recommend a hydrating toner , definitely NOT A PEELING/CLARIFYING/OIL CONTROLLING toner. then you wipe it / spray it all over face, wait for absorption , then repeat 7 times. I just don't have the patience so I only do 2 times

Re: Should I use toner?

Hey girl similar to @Lotus15 toner from BR P50 is the best and I recommend including a toner in your regimen to keep your skin balanced and not lacking certain things it needs with a cleaning and moisturizing regimen.  This toner from BR is great ! definitely worth a try

Re: Should I use toner?

For me, toning is an essential part of my routine.  I use Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 in the morning which has totally transformed my skin-- I used to have a super oily t-zone, but the P50 has gotten it completely under control.  It's a liquid exfoliator and I don't go a day without it.

At night, I use rose water to tone and restore my skin's pH.  I have fairly dry cheeks, so the rose water is super hydrating and gentle, and it smells amazing.  Right now I'm using Tammy Fender Rose Water but there are tons of different brands who offer rose water products.

@Anonymous I love toner! Toner is far from my last step in my routine. Today when I got home from work, I removed my make up, applied my favourite moisturizing face mask (Farmacy Honey Potion), Rinsed it off and applied my softening lotion (what Shisedo calls their toner), then applied my serum and eye cream. Before I go to sleep I will apply my retiniol and lactic acid and my moisturizer 🖤❤ I'm a little bit extra though. Depending on your skin's needs, theres a toner for just about everything. I use an anti aging one packed with moisture.

@GG84Thank you! That was really helpful, and I strive to be more extra with my skincare routine one day haha

Re: Should I use toner?

It depends what kind of toner you use. The traditional toners were PH balancing and some of the new ones are more moisturizing. Depending on the cleanser you could benefit from a PH balancing toner. I think most skins can benefit from the 'Asian' skin toners/essences/lotions even slightly oily ones as they are hydrating.

If you share your skin type and cleanser, we could give you more details!

Re: Should I use toner?

@Aaliaa Thanks for your reply! I'm normal/oily skin and I usually use the Purity cleanser which doesn't leave me dry. Although occasionally I do use the Clinique Liquid Facial soap which is a bit more drying.

Re: Should I use toner?

@Anonymous I think after something like the Purity Cleanser you could benefit with a 'hydrating' toner/essence if its dry in Winter where you are. I used to have combination/oily skin and by using products for 'oily' skin I found my skin dried out - produced more oil - and I therefore tried even more oily products totally dehydrating my skin! I love the May Coop Raw Sauce or Pyungkul Essence. @GG84 gave you great advice about when to apply it.

Re: Should I use toner?

Great! I'll do that, I do want more hydration so a toner like that sounds good.

Thank so much again to everyone for the reply 🙂

RE: Should I use toner?

I personally love to use a toner right after a wash my face @Anonymous. It helps correct my skin's pH and absorbs product that I layer much better. And I just love the refreshing feeling it leaves!
