SOS! Please help a mama out! Allergic reaction/burns from collagen eye masks?

I foolishly used some cheapie amazon collagen eye masks(by Purederm for reference). New mom over here and needed to fake sleep haha. I’m usually big on ingredients and clean beauty/skincare, but I was going off of a beauty bloggers recommendations. I instantly regretted it, though, because I had a crazy reaction to the product. Immediately my under eyes and eye lids reddened and little red bumps broke out along my cheekbones, on my eye lids and under my eyes. The areas burn a little and are slightly itchy. Certain bumps are a tad bit painful to touch. I’ve never had an allergic reaction to any product in my entire life. I would just say that my skin is very acne prone and sensitive. The first two photos are 24 hours after using the eye patches. The last three photos are almost 3 days after using the patches. The bumps have spread up and down my face and the skin near my under eyes where my little crows feet lines are has become leathery. This makes me think that my skin was burnt.. I’m currently just cleansing and using a soothing moisturizer. Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any input/advice on what’s going on with my skin and how to treat it? Is it normal that My skin is still experiencing a rash/when can I expect it to start clearing? I greatly appreciate any and all feedback!

I had a reaction that looks similar to yours after using Strivectin. It took about five days to clear up and itched pretty bad. I took benadryl a few times but mostly just left it alone to calm down, no lotions or creams or whatnot.

@skader

You might have an allergic reaction or a chemical burn.

(I have a chemical burn as we speak. I overdid it with the acids and tretinoin (oops!).)

Keep it basic while it heals. Gentle cleanser, basic moisturizer, maybe a balm if you have one at home (aquaphor is great for healing wounds - I don't normally use petroleum based products, but they do work for those cases and don't further aggravate the skin).

Wait until you feel it healed and the area is no longer red before attempting to remove/exfoliate the scabs/rough skin.

You might want to try antihistamine pills to see if it improves your skin, since it might have been an allergic reaction to begin with.

@skader I've experienced those same allergic reactions of swelling, itching, and rash all too often, some even warranting a trip to urgent care. It lasts from several days to a week

Just stick to your gentle and hydrating routine and take some over-the-counter antihistamines and/or use anti-itch products/ingredients, like colloidal oatmeal in Skinfix Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm 0.48 oz/ 13.5 mL  .

If it's unbearable, go to the doctor asap.

(Avoid using the max strength corticosteroid creams on your face unless instructed by doctor)

@skader I've been where you are many times with skin reactions and that almost chemical burn type skin response. Here are some things that work for me:

Tatcha's Indigo Cream (a cheaper alternative would be Eucerin Original Healing Creme)

Sheet masks with aloe / honey / snail mucin

Gently exfoliating with a very soft toothbrush

Hope that you feel better soon!
