Philosophy's Take a Deep Breath V.S. Hope in a Jar?

Hey, I was recently at my local Sephora and was browsing through the skin care section, until I found the section dedicated to Philosophy products. I wanted to make a purchase but I had no idea if Hope in a Jar or Take a Deep Breath moisturizer was better for my skin type. I have oily skin all year long and am not prone to acne. My skin is actually blemish-free until around that time of the month when I get a pimple or two. Is there anyone out there who has tried them both? If so, what is your take on which moisturizer is better for my skin type? Thanks in advance!<3

So, although take a deep breath is a refreshing, gel texture, it's not doing much to better your skin. It's a very minimal amount of moisture (think of it less as a moisturizer, and more as holding onto the moisture that's already deeper in your skin), some antiox and a dash of cosmetic illumination to give your skin a "soft focus" by reflecting light and bluring imperfections.

The hope in a jar line actually has a very gentle lactic acid to keep dry skin from building up and potentially causing congested pores, but more likely just dull complexion. The original HIAJ can feel a bit "velvety" for combo skin, but thats why they made HIAJ oil-free! Smiley Happy Let the masses rejoyce, age-prevention, acne prevention, radiance boosting, and most of all just the right amount of moisture to keep skin healthy, plump, and primed for a hint of blush and a bold lip Smiley Wink

Hi there!

So, I've tried both and liked them, however due to the strict regimine my derm has me on, I haven't been able to use either.  But here are my thoughts on each.  First of all, I first got Philosophy's Take A Deep Breath and really liked the consistency and the gel-like texture; It felt really refreshing on the skin, and didn't make me super oily throughout the day.  However, after about 3 days use I noticed it was beginning to dry out my skin a bit, which is unusual for me because I usually have oily skin.  So, I later went and purchased Hope In A Jar and was really happy with the consistency of that as well--this one didn't dry out my skin as much, and left me with a smooth finish.  However, I did notice I was a tad bit oily midday.  But, my mom SWEARS by this product which is why I tried it in the first place.

Like I said, I've had to cut these out of my routine for the time being, but I've held onto them both in the hopes I can use them once my harsh, annoying, irritating, derm-prescribed skincare routine is over.  I'd probably use Take A Deep Breath in the summer months, and Hope in A Jar during the fall/winter months and/or at night.

Not sure if this helps but best of luck!

Howdy,   I have oily combination skin and have tried both...

I have oily combination skin and have tried both. Take a deep breath would be better. It is a light gel cream texture, feels refreshing on, and I'm loving it for the summer. If you look at it super closely you can see tiny sparkle/glitter, not sure why it's there but it doesn't really show on the face. It have a mild clean scent and feels pleasant. Go get a sample of this. If it is still a bit too much/heavy for you, try Bliss Oxygen+C cream gel, which is not new but pretty much the same promise and lighter/liquidy.

Hope in a Jar is creamy and makes my face feel velvety in the winter, the only time I can use it without feeling like oil slick. It does the job but have a strong scent (like pepper, wilted vegetable, and melted plastic to me), and WILL sting wind chapped skin.
