Welcome to the 2024 Masking Challenge!
This year is going to be a little different - simplified. Easy. Every month will have a new theme, and that's it. Feel free to join in whenever and wherever. Most importantly - have fun!
March Madness - Competition is in the air. Find a worthy dupe of a ๐ฐmask that is share-worthy? Or find a dupe that works even better than the original? Details, please!
January | Fresh Starts - Time for a re-set, or morning masking? However you see it, this month is all about new beginnings. |
February | Winter Love - Whether it's a mask you adore, or something extra-special to care for dry winter skin, this month is for some soothing TLC. |
March | March Madness - Competition is in the air! Find a $ dupe of a $$$ mask that is share-worthy? Or find a dupe that works even better than the original? Details, please! |
April | Spring Fling - Baskets and bouquets, showers of much-anticipated rain...this month's focus is herbal and floral sensory delights. |
May | Dew Drops - May Day lore says to wash your face in the dew you collect in the morning of the first day of May for radiant skin. This month is for absorbing all of that good-for-you H2O. |
June | Summer Sunshine - Ice cream, sunglasses, SPF, check! Once the sun is down (or before it's up), extra care is most necessary. How do you give your skin cooling repair? |

Thank you @Aaliaa for starting this thread, and giving us a place to share our love for masks๐
@itsfi I saw this and was so tempted
Yes, I second that ๐ please share your experiences if anyone out there gives it a go
@CynthieLu, I hear ya. Other than the purple one, the only other mask in the set my skin responds very well to is the pumpkin mask and I already have a full size of that one. I know there are folks who like how the gel based masks in the set perform for them so Iโm hoping one of those beauties may pick up this one during the sale.
โ
โthis is a new one I've tried recently!
Like @Kim888 this mask says gummy, I'm trying to figure out what the use of this word is, nothing about it was gummy or jelly imo.
However,,I loved the fit, the scent was lovely floral vibes and my skin felt so soft and hydrated and definitely nourished.
Tightening and vitalizing not so much, also not a deal breaker!
Would absolutely use this one again
@lmaster Sounds like a great one!
@ather it left a good impression! So I'm ๐
Sounds like a nice one, @lmaster!
@lmaster Soft and hydrated skin sounds wonderful! And I really like the picture. Science can make beauty possible ๐
Isn't that the truth!! @Cissy63
@lmaster I thought this was a nice one too!
@Shosh85 yaaaaaaay!! I'm glad it was not a dud!!
@lmaster @itsfi @Kim888 The Korean translation for viscous is often confused with the word gummy. Theyโre synonyms or close enough that a less precise word is likely to have be chosen. The thicker serum is likely what they were referring to. Checking the source of a mask with a language translator for any confusing words can often help to figure out what the original untranslated meaning was
@heartsmyface this is indeed a rabbit hole ๐คฃ very interesting!! Thank you for the info!!
That's interesting @heartsmyface. I thought the Korean word for viscous was pronounced "jeomseong" or maybe "jumdo"? Is there another Korean word for it that is specific to or often used in connection with skincare or sheet masks?
There is a Korean word the phonetic spelling is "gummy", but the direct translation for that in English is spider. Hmmm, this has now made me even more curious. ๐ค @lmaster @Kim888
@itsfi Oh Iโm not sure! Hahah, itโs a rabbit hole going through the thesaurus in other languages in general! you can get lost for hours๐
@lmaster @Kim888 The "gummy" descriptor is in reference to the sheet itself, primarily the fit of the mask, and not the essence or serum which saturates it. The design and component of gummy sheet masks are supposed to be of such quality that they adhere to and fit the entire face in such a way that there's no gaps between it and your skin - no air bubbles, etc. Maybe the "gummy" term is meant to suggest it sticks to the skin the same was as gum might stick to surfaces. The intended fit of "gummy masks" is what many of us have described as "second skin" or "hugging" or "cocooning" our face.
lmaster, you mentioned you loved the fit - would you say it felt like second skin or that the sheet hugged or cocooned your face?
Thank you for the info @itsfi !!! Mine didnโt have particularly stand out adherence so maybe that was the disconnect for me ! but they canโt all be winners I guess !
@Kim888, have you tried other masks form the brand? I tried one from another line, it was from their Creme Coating line (the beige one) and it was amazing - fit and feel were good and the results excellent - one I have in the queue for this brisk weather. So nourishing.
@itsfi no I think thatโs the only mask from the line I tried !
@Kim888, here's what the packaging of the mask I used looks like -
There's also one with blue packaging and an image of a block of ice that I'm recalling as being geared towards cooling.
